The wave of rebellious confidence was beginning to wane in Amea, and by the time they returned to Narrie soil she was questioning every moment that had led to them being here. Was it really so wise to bring him back near her family? Especially after he'd threatened them?

But he was watching, so she played strong. If he knew she was having doubts, whatever ground she'd gained today would be gone in an instant. Despite the heat, gloves covered the damage to her palm. Her ability to heal was weak, and her eyes had faded back to a watery blue.

"Nothing here has changed." she said, looking around. Not that she expected it to have changed much, but it felt sometimes like Narrie was in a whole other time dimension. Like they had left yesterday and come back to everything exactly as it was.

"We are back." Amea took a deep breath, and looked at Zane. "What is it that you like to do first? We should meet with others, or house to settle?"

Zane had to play his part right, for now. She had the upper hand in her mind, and he was going to let her keep that in her mind. Zane had to be calculated in his methods. Threatening the family to her had backfired. He would not make that mistake again directly to her.

Whenever the arrived in Narrie, he looked around. This place did not change. It was as dull as ever. She was probably pleased with that, but Zane hated it. These little small, backwards towns bothered him.

"Well, if it acceptable to you, my love, I managed to keep our old place for land tax purposes." He gave her a weak smile. "I hope that was alright. If not, I'm sure we can find a new home."

The letter had been an unexpected surprise, but one that had Jezebel nonetheless excited, not only because Amea was returning home, but because she had actually reached out to let Jezebel know. The young mother almost wanted to cry as she got changed out of her house clothes and into something a bit more acceptable for being seen in. Lorelei had already insisted that she wanted to see Aunty Ruella as well, but Jez wasn't keen on taking Viktor or the triplets. Not yet.

The working alone told Jez that it was likely that Zane was going to be there when she went to welcome her sister back. She didn't want him near the triplets or her fiancee, even if Viktor could take pretty good care of himself, being a Dhampir and all.

Once the two girls were ready, Jezebel gave Viktor a kiss, and then she and Lorelei vanished from the apartment, to appear in Narrie and wait. They didn't have to wait long, however, when Jezebel felt the all too familiar presence of her twin arrive in the town. Lei had felt it too and smiled up at her mother, before the pair once again vanished, only to appear in front of Amea and Zane.

Just being able to see her again, Jez teared up as she smiled at her sister, and then stepped forward to reach out and pull her into a hug. With their hearts so close to one another, she realised she'd missed her more than she could have even realised. It was their blood, she knew, but she felt incredibly elated.

"Goodness, I'm so happy to see you," The words were almost half-choked with emotion as she just held Mea for a few moments, before pulling back a little so that Lorelei - who had been waiting very patiently, while also studying Zane with a far deeper intelligence than any 7 year old had a right to - could move forward and throw her arms around Amea's waist in a warming hug as well. She was family, she belonged here with them.

"We missed you, Aunty Ruella!" Came the young girl's expressed voice as she tilted her head upward to beam at her aunt, "Welcome home."

The news of her daughter's homecoming was... unexpected to say the least. Adele wasn't sure what sort of trick this might be, and she intended to find out. Caleb also insisted on finding out. He'd missed Amea terribly since she left, she was perhaps the only one he'd never really minded sharing Adele with.

"They are here?" Caleb's pointed remark cut through the moment he spotted Jezebel and Lorelei.

"Well, yes Caley." Adele sighed. "Jezebel is Ru's sister too, you know." Caleb crossed his arms, clearly displeased by this turn of events. His cold blue eyes then turned to Zane, who it appeared he despised even more. Now that--Adele could get behind that.

"And here is the one who stole her." Caleb was Australian-born and yet he still carried a hint of Adele's accent. Unlike his sisters, his hair was platinum blonde, his features just as sharp and eyes just as blue. Adele still saw Kellan in him, though.

"Be nice, Caley." Adele tried to head off any immediate tension, standing back as Jez and Lorelei had their reunion. When that was done, a very long---very awkward moment settled. The moment where Adele supposed she was meant to step forward and embrace Amea herself.

That... seemed weird. Wrong. They'd never been the embracing type. She settled instead for a smile and a clinical wave.

"It is good to have you back, Ruella." Adele said, once again putting herself in the running for Mother of the Year.

"Our old home will be fine, love." Amea nodded, her head turning as she began to feel that eerie nearness and she was engulfed in a hug.

"I am... also. Happy." Amea's words were half-stammered, the sudden wave of emotion that had flooded her was... overwhelming. She could feel her own, feel Jezebel too, and Lorelei. Happiness and nearness. It was almost too much. Her breath grew thin and for a moment she was sure she was suffocating.

Then there was a child---and it was attaching itself to her. Again, Amea had no idea what to do. She looked to Zane, her expression mildly panicked, for help. How deal with children? Affection? Any of this? Amea stared back down.

"Home this is not, but it does for now." she murmured down to the girl. Perhaps she shouldn't have sent that letter? Perhaps they should have snuck in quietly?

It took her a moment to really recognise Caleb. His tone was the same as always, but the adorable softness of his toddler self was gone. He was all edges and cynical stare. What had she expected? He had been left to grow with Adele.

"He did not steal. He is mine husband." Amea too felt the awkwardness of the moment as she and Adele locked gazes. Something was not... there. Neither of them knew what it was, only that it was missing.

"I am glad to hear this, Mamiere." she said stiffly.

Zane nodded in agreement. “Our old home it is, then. Whatever it is that brings you the most happiness.” Zane just needed to keep this routine going. Hopefully whatever strength she had regained would diminish soon enough. He could spot it happening already. He would just have to await the right moment. Until then, he’d have to play the obidient husband.

As the arrivals began, Zane wanted to groan, but he did not. Hugging ensued, but Zane kept a polite smile on his face, his hands staying at his sides. Of course, he was prepared if they tried anything against him. Their dislike of him evident. He had stolen away Amea from then in their eyes.

Whenever she looks at him when the child hugged her leg, he gave her a smile and a curt nod. If they were to try to start a family of their own, then this was something she would need to get used to. Children were typically affectionate. Zane, however cold he may be, actually had a soft spot for small children.

And then another child came, this one flat out calling Zane out over their disappearance. Zane still said nothing, just standing in silence instead. The obidient, quiet husband. Amea has corrected him though. Her husband. He never stole her from anyone.

Then there was Adele. The last time they had seen each other, he had showed her the picture of him with family around a campfire, Thomas in the photo. He’d told her that the only reason he was leaving her alone was because of him. She’d allowed Amea to come back to him, and he’d kept his word in return. Thus far, Thomas had not bothered them. He’d have to see how long that would last. How long this new attitude from Amea would continue. He just gave Adele from behind Amea a sly smile when he caught her eye. A reminder.

"Home is where you feel alive," Lei's words to Mea were quiet, and somehow manipulated for the woman's own ears and no one else's. The seven year old with the gaze of someone much older then smiled knowingly as she offered a nod to her aunt. "You felt a little bit, didn't you?" She then gave Amea's waist another squeeze before returning to her own mother's side, only to smile brightly to Caleb and Adele.

"Uncle Caley!" The boy may have disliked just about everyone, but it did not stop Lorelei from showing affection in her mannerisms.

Jezebel heard her little brother's voice and inwardly a part of her felt sad for a moment. She wasn't sure what it was, but he seemed insistent that he would not like her or her family. In fact, he'd been happy that Dave had left as well. Though he had to be happy that Mea was returned, right? Jez stepped aside a little to make room for the boy in case he wanted to greet the arrivals as well, and cast her gaze about, catching the sudden expression of Zane that appeared to be aimed across to Adele.

Casting her own gaze to Del, a brow rose in question, and she wondered if there was something she needed to know, though she knew that she hadn't liked what she'd seen in Zane's gaze.

With the sudden awkwardness, however, Lorelei looked between the estranged mother and daughter, and then bounced over to Adele, and clasped her hand, smiling up at her as she tugged her along to be closer to the others, waiting for Caleb to do his greeting if he was. Once close enough, she placed Del's hand in Jezebel's and then Jezebel's in Mea's, and smiled at her work. The three women looked eerily similar, despite the slight differences in care.

Though she could not feel, nor intuitively understand Zane, that look said everything. One hand shifted to rest on Caleb's shoulder, squeezing tight until the boy yelped in irritation.

"Mamiere!" Caleb protested, but Adele's deathgrip didn't waver. She locked her gaze back onto Zane's, fierce and proud. This was her family, and she would not allow them to come to harm.

Adele didn't notice at first as Lorelei's light fingers grabbed her free hand, not until it was entwined with Jezebel's. Contact always made that bond so much stronger, like nodes on a circuit she could feel the energy flowing between them.

When Amea was added to the line, the dynamic shifted dramatically. For the first time, Adele could feel just how empty Amea was, her own excess force flowing through Jezebel to fill the void. With her dull hair and watered eyes, Amea looked almost... plain, or normal. Adele blinked and looked at Jezebel, as if to confirm what she was feeling.

"You've not been looking after yourself, Ruella." she pointed out. "Do you ensure she eats well, Zane? That she rests? She looks tired and worn."

Amea didn't catch the look between her mother and her husband. She was still flailing in the awkwardness of this touching and not touching.

Something else was here though, something she couldn't quite see. Cautiously she looked around, certain that Lillian was lurking somewhere in the shadows. Or Bethianna. They had a habit of being where they shouldn't, but this other didn't carry either of their signatures. It was far more like... Adele.

Lorelei took her hand, attaching it to Jezebel's, and as the three of them were connected, it hit her. A rush of energy that tingled along her skin, brought back that electric feeling from before, and the sudden and clear knowledge:

"Mamiere, you are pregnant." she said, pulling her hand back as though she'd been burned. The sudden intensity of the closeness, the invasive energy that had tried to fill her.

Caleb wrenched himself away from Adele, clearly shocked by this news---and not at all happy.

Zane looked at Adele at her question. He still didn't speak, just nodded. If he was going to play the obedient part correctly, well, he wouldn't speak unless Amea spoke to him, or gave him permission to answer questions. If her family thought that he was under her power, along with Amea, then it would also work to his advantage. They did not know everything that went on in their home, and he knew Amea was smart enough not to divulge all of the information.

Then, they were doing some sort of weird thing as family. Zane folded his hands together in front of him, just standing there. There seemed to be a certain type of magic in the air, then Amea pulled her hand back sharply, announcing Adele was pregnant.

Well, this made things interesting most certainly.

Jezebel easily felt the energy between herself and Adele, she was used to it, since she was known for being a hugger. Even Caleb couldn't get away from her a lot of the time. But as soon as Amea's hand was linked as well, the hollowness inside her was felt even more than when Jez had hugged her, and her eyes widened slightly, before she glanced at Adele and conveyed with her expression alone that she felt it too.

"Looks like we're going to have to have a spa day or something soon, Ruella," Jezebel said lightly with a warm smile, even as the other woman pulled her hand away quickly. She didn't believe for a moment that Mea's health had been taken care of, and her gaze narrowed on Zane as he nodded.

And then the revelation about Adele's state of being, causing Jez to mentally wince for her mother, as Caleb jerked himself away. She wondered briefly how they were going to help him come to terms with it.

"Is it not wonderful? The family grows and becomes stronger. And you will become stronger again now you are reunited with us," Lorelei had clasped Amea's hand again in her own, smiling brightly up at her as a very gentle flow of energy seemed to pass from her to her aunt. "I cannot wait to spend more time with you," She was pleased to have Ruella home.

Though the girl, strangely and unlike everyone else, had not even given Zane a single glance the entire time they had been there.

That was definitely not convenient. Adele closed her eyes, breathing in and counting to five. How had she forgotten Amea's sheer bluntness? It had been a mistake bringing Caleb here before he knew, and now she was going to pay for that. Gods knew how many days it would be before the boy would deign to talk to her again.

"Yeah." Adele confirmed, her lips still in a grimace. "Which... your brother didn't know, so thank you."

"Were you never going to tell me?" Caleb's voice was cold and accusing.

"Obviously I was going to tell you at some point..." Adele decided not to bother. There was nothing to be gained in arguing with Caleb. Slender fingers found the cigarette pack in her pocket, drawing one out and lighting it. "David left me, and I'm pregnant. There. You're caught up. We all happy?"

Adele returned her gaze to Amea, looking the girl up and down again.

"You do not look well fed or rested." she repeated. "You must organise for a spa day with Jezebel, we will fix this. Look at your eyes, they are near grey!"

The little girl's hand was in hers again, the nearness unfamiliar and uncomfortable. Again she pulled her hand away, even that soft and gentle transfer felt too much. Too strong. She worried for what the girl might feel of her in return, what she would understand that Amea did not want understood. The echoes of her fear and pain lingered still too close to the surface.

"If you would not have mine brother upset, Mamiere, you would do best to not keep secrets." she said smoothly.

"We have had a day very draining, do you move home with such ease? I do not think." she added indignantly, and far too defensively. This had been a terrible idea. She'd barely got back and already she could tell that her mother and sister held some damning suspicions. She didn't even have to tell them, they just knew things weren't right.

At the insistence of a spa, she froze. A day away with her sister, alone? That was pushing things for certain. She looked across to Zane for confirmation. Would he allow it?

"I... am not sure for this. We have much for settle in yet." she stalled. "What you think, husband?"

Adele kept on about how she looked, and Zane just stood there. She would continue to create suspicions in her mind, but Zane was not overly concerned. Amea would not give up those secrets willingly. He was worried, however, that she may do it in a way that she has no control over, much like how she had no control over her sister knowing where they were. Drastic actions would have to be taken if they found out and tried to get in between them.

They continued to ask her about a spa day, and she had looked over to him. She was still seeking permission from him. That was a good sign. He would still have to play his part correctly, however.

"We do have a lot to settle into our home, but I am sure that once we have accomplished that, and it was something you wanted to do, then I don't see why you shouldn't. It would be good for you to spend some quality time with you family." He placed his hand on the small of her back, giving her a small.

"If it is what you want, of course."

Jezebel glanced between Adele and Caleb a moment, though her gaze landed back on her mother, and with the memory of perhaps getting him to spend some time with some role models. But that might have to wait a little bit, since there was clearly going to have to be a discussion between the mother and son regarding the new child on the way.

Besides, there were also other things to consider now that Amea was back, namely the fact that the woman was not doing so well at all. It was almost like she was human, the energy that she should have been carrying within her near nonexistent.

Lei pouted sadly as Mea pulled her hand from the girl's, but didn't move to grab it. Rather, her gaze slid toward the man that her aunt had deferred to for the first time, and within the seven year old's gaze was much more intelligence and knowledge than she had any right to. She watched him almost as though she could see right into his soul, and the look she gave him was rather damning. She moved back to her mother's side, but it was clear she seemed to know something.

Jezebel was much better at schooling her own expression, able to laugh gently at the idea that she seemingly expected Mea to be able to come out with her without getting settled. At least Adele agreed they needed a day for the returned woman.

"I don't mean right away, or even tomorrow, but definitely within the near future, maybe in a few days or something. It'll be nice, I know a really great place, and hey... you can even come by and meet the triplets as well, they're dying to meet you," Jezebel smiled brightly at her sister, "Did you get the photo album I sent? They're growing up so fast."

Adele narrowed her gaze at Zane, not sure what to make of this. It was a far cry from what she remembered of him, and Amea did not seem to carry the confidence and energy she would have expected if this truly was their relationship. The more she looked, the more she saw was wrong with the picture. This... wasn't Amea. Not the Amea she knew.

The Amea she'd known was... terrifying. Head-strong. Defiant. Why wasn't she seeing any of this now? She knew it had been bleeding out while the pair were still in Narrie, but this... Adele had hoped for better.

"Yes... you must meet the triplets." Adele echoed, a small smile landing on her lips. "They will love you. They always do love pointing to your pictures, it will be nice for them to see you in the flesh."

As she spoke, her eye was drawn to... a smudge? A graze? A mark on Amea's cheekbone that was darker than the rest of her pale skin. Only faint, but out of place nonetheless. She reached out to touch it.

"What is this..."

Amea tensed at the mention of the triplets. More children. More children like Lorelei. More hugs... more contact... the very thought made her wildly uncomfortable. Zane's firm hand in the small of her back, however, grounded her and reminded her---a spa day was probably something to agree to now, and back out of later.

"I will see what time we have when house is set up." she replied, feeling that was a good enough answer. Could she even handle a day, surrounded by them? Amea wasn't sure anymore. Maybe coming back had been a terrible idea. All those years she'd fought for some semblance of family with Adele... maybe it wasn't for her after all.

Adele's gaze was on her, and she could feel it like a burning beam pointed at her face. It near hurt to be under such close and intense scrutiny, they were all... overwhelming. She stared as Adele's hand moved toward her face, fingertips brushing the developing bruise. She winced at the contact.

"It is nothing." Amea mumbled, unable to think of a better reply.

"What time you have? Are you working now?" Jezebel's question was asked innocently, and was a logical one to ask when Amea appeared to have hinted that she may not have time. There were very few reasons to not have time for a day spa, especially if you weren't working. She watched her sister with a keen eye, as Lorelei stood beside Jezebel. Everyone seemed very honed in on something being not quite right, and so Jez tried to remain casual.

Though when Adele noticed the bruising, Jezebel's smile faltered slightly for a brief moment as her gaze flickered toward Zane for barely a split second. Even if the couple denied it, she knew very well where the mark had come from, and wondered what would make them return to Narrie with such glaringly obvious hints.

"Why can you not heal it?" The voice of the young girl beside Jezebel spoke up, though it was less of a question and more a demand. Amea was supposed to be like them, but she was weak, she couldn't even cover up the marks of being hit.

"I'm sure she will, it might just be recent and she hasn't had the chance," Jez spoke quietly to her daughter, as though to placate her, but her own words almost made her wince as well. She had hoped that things might be better for Mea once they'd disappeared, but it appeared that her sister had near lost herself entirely. "You should get an ice pack on that or something though," She murmured to Amea, wishing she could offer to heal it, but knowing the offer would likely be refused, considering how the other woman had reacted to her family's touch so far.

"I did not see a point to heal it..." Amea floundered. "That is all. It is small, a waste of energy to bother." she tried to wave off their concern, but the movement was far from casual. Her glance back to Zane was more than obvious. Amea was out of her depth here, she was so used to his direction that being without it left her feeling so very exposed.

"Working, no." Amea blinked, the question seemed odd to her. What wife had time for working? "I am not fit for working." she answered flatly, the same answer she'd always been given when she suggested the possibility to Zane.

He wasn't wrong. Amea hadn't completed schooling of any kind. She had no skills, no experience. She wasn't good with people. Her isolation meant she'd not really progressed with her English either, the world outside of her home was as baffling to her as it had always been. Her only real talent was an uncanny ability to bond with animals, which was largely unknown, even to herself.

"There is much a house demands." Amea added. It was essentially a full time job to her, maintaining every perfect square inch to Zane's liking. "Besides, mine husband works. Do you know what it is you will be doing here?" she turned to Zane, curious herself to see if he'd lined anything up.

Zane watched as Adele reached out and saw the mark on Amea's face. Zane just said nothing. It was not his place to speak, and Amea had told them it was nothing. For all they knew, she tripped and fell. In her state, it was completely believable anyways. They didn't need to know anything, though he was sure they had their suspicions. Amea glanced over at him, a little too obviously. He'd have to teach her how to be more subtle with her actions. That would have to be something done at a later time. His hand was still on the small of her back, and he just rubbed it for her.

When she spoke to him, he gave her a smile. "Yes, I have something worked out in Melbourne. It is closer to home than the one I had where we were. Not as much travel. I'll be able to be home more with you, to help you take care of the home, my love." He gave her a peck on the cheek.

"You will be able to spend some more time with your family, if you wish, with me being home more. Perhaps once we settle in we should have them over for dinner."

"Dinner? Well that sounds fantastic." Adele had a smile on her face, but it didn't carry to her words or her eyes. "But, you shouldn't worry yourself with having us over so soon---we should host you first."

"Mamiere will cook." Caleb interjected, before looking squarely at Zane. "And then you will die."

Adele clenched her jaw, genuinely unsure if this was Caleb's blunt dig at her inability to cook, or a stupidly obvious threat to Zane. Knowing the moody pre-teen, it was likely both. She tried to laugh it off.

"I will have someone else prepare the food, don't worry." she shot Caleb a most displeased look. "Rude as he can be, Caleb is right... I never did get any better at cooking. Never had to. David did most of it."

The welcome was wearing thin, she could tell. She grabbed Caleb by the shoulder again, giving Zane and Amea a tight smile.

"We'd best get out of your hair, no doubt you have a lot of moving in to do. But we will organise to get together properly next week, yes?"

"See, Mea, it sounds like you're going to have a bit more time up your sleeves after all, so no reason you can't come for a day spa treatment, it'll make you feel wonderful, I promise," Jezebel spoke lightly, to her sister, at least a little happy for the face that Améa had now been given no reason to not be able to come along.

The idea of a dinner sounded wonderful as well, though when she heard Caleb's words, Jez had to lift a hand to her mouth, coughing quietly in order to cover up the laugh that threatened to burst forth. Lorelei grinned at Caleb, however, and gave a small nod to his words.

"You sure you're game enough to host another dinner, Del? Something interesting always seems to happen at them," Jezebel smirked a little cheekily, before offering a small wink to show she was just teasing.

"But yes, we should let you guys get settled in," Jezebel followed Del's lead, and nodded to the couple recently returned, before offering a warm and gentle smile to Améa. "I really am happy that you're back. I hope we get to catch up soon, and spend some time together." The words were sincere, and she desperately wanted to follow up with another hug, but she doubted that Améa would appreciate it.

Instead, Jezebel clasped Lorelei's hand and the seven year old waved to the pair, her head tilted as though studying them curiously still, before the pair then simply faded from sight.
