Because all of the Karras siblings had managed to be born in march, apparently the fall was a great time for Atlas, but because of the mass of birthdays in March the siblings got together with just them to celebrate.  It was a relatively good idea.  That and they didn’t have to worry about parties none of them wanted, and the celebration with a father that didn’t care enough about them to be there during the year.  It was a way to show their father that he was not what dictated their lives.  This year however it would include Orion.  The family had been surprised of course but honestly, Lot was rather excited to have another quidditch player in the family.  Petros and Lot were brothers but they honestly didn’t have much in common.  The truth was that he saw more of himself in Orion than he did Petros.  However that did not change the love held among them.

This year the party was at his place.  It was not the biggest home in the world… however it was perfect for this purpose.  Doe had come in the night before to help with the preparations.  The kids were out in the backyard running around.  Persephone was in the swing in the doorway giggling up a storm.  He smiled at Doe.  They had been discussing her trip to Greece and what the family had said about everything… It was what Lot expected, and he was trying to understand the rift between Doe and her husband with what limited information she had given him.  It seemed as though she was trying.  He didn’t envy her, nor did he envy Jason.  To be married to the Karras family was not easy.  He was just glad they seemed to be working things out…  They had been able to get Orion for the weekend… that was e feat in and of itself.

The sound of the door made him smile and he picked up the little princess that was bouncing in her swing and laughed as he opened the door.  ”Ah you made it”  He said ushering the youngest of their siblings into the home.  His large hand clapped on his shoulder and he ushered him into the kitchen.  ”Doe has been prepping things and we are almost ready to put the chicken out on the grill…”  he said with a smile.  ”Have you learned the fine art of grilling yet?”  That was the important thing to Lot.  He had not stayed in school like the rest of them.  ”Young Silas will be happy to see you, you are the new favorite topic.”  he said with a smile.  Doe moved from her spot to greet Orion with a kiss as she moved to slice the carrots.

Orion had been confused by the invitation.

For one, he knew he had a birthday. Eudoxia had told him about the March birthdays, but after all the schooling, most of it had slipped his mind. He had been busy with school and Quidditch and Frankie and hadn't given much thought to his family. Now that he had his approaching birthday, thanks in part to his mother continuously sending him hints as to his gift, he knew it was only a matter of time before someone made a big deal of it. Well, someone had finally made a big deal of it.

Orion hadn't minded the invitation to his brother's house, either. After all, he had only met Lot the one time and corresponded with him a bit during the year. The fact of the matter was that Orion was underage and in school and not able to be out and have flights of fancy. Certainly that wouldn't happen until the next year when he'd be done and graduated and able to actually have a life outside of textbooks, spells and wand casting.

"Yeah, I made it." Orion glanced around, never having actually set foot inside of this house before. "Grill? As in barbie? Are we making snags and burgers?" He was starting to get more familiar with Australian slang, thanks to living here for the past few years.

"Gee, thanks," Orion said, rolling his eyes. "I didn't want to be anyone's topic." He tried not to push mushy Eudoxia away as she returned to her chopping. "What can I do to help?"

Doe knew that Orion was not affectionate like she was.  Doe also didn’t actually care that he was not as affectionate.  It was one of the many things that she had known about herself.  Sometimes her emotions didn’t fit in her body and she had far too many emotions swirling around as it was.  The issues with Jason had not gone away, they were working through them but it was hard when she didn’t see him.  She also was still frustrated at how Jason had reacted to the idea she had Orion in their home.  She sighed.  It was a work in progress- maybe someday she could actually talk to her husband and spend some time with him.  She let out a small sigh as she laughed.  ”Oye mate learning some of the slang.”  Lot teased with a clap in the back as Eudoxia truned to look and smiled.

She was turning into Lot’s mother.  Lilah had often told her that she was happy when the kitchen was full of food, family and laughter.  Doe had not known that sentiment until recently and she figured that had more to do with her assuming the role of matriarch to this family.  ”Oh, it’s because he adores you.”  She assured Orion.  ”He has been building many things with his Legos and he wants to show you at least half of them… I got him down to five for the weekend.”  She said as Lot laughed.  ”He has been into the wild west… and so he built a wild west town.  We all have roles…”  she said with a shrug of her shoulder.

Silas was such a creative boy.  ”I could actually use someone to chop the scallions for the salad and then I have the mandolin charmed to slice the potatoes for the Musaka.”  She said with a smile.  ”Could mind the bag and replace the potato as needed?  I woudl charm the potatoes too but they get a bit squirrely.”  She said with a smile.  Lot started to get the chicken out to make siure the marinade had soaked through.  ”How’s school this semester?”  She asked
