There we days when living two lies was more than even he could handle. Pretending to be a criminal that was captured and in some kind of pseudo agreement to pay off his debt to society was something, thankfully, wrapped heavily in the truth. At one point in his much younger life he was all the things that he’d had to show the world at this point. In a lot of ways he was still those things.

As he approached the door to the house he shared with the agent, who was supposedly in control of making sure he toed the lie and behaved in a way that aligned with the wizarding worlds’ opinion of correct behaviour, he had to reign in any of the emotions or issues that had arisen during the job he’d just finished. It didn’t help that breathing in deeply caused the sensation of pain to hit his ribcage.

Just another secret to keep one that was much easier to keep since no female in this house had a reason to see him without his top on.

Raising his wand Ash tapped in the pattern that allowed people who knew it too gain access to the door and get into the house. Pushing the door open and stepping inside, kicking it closed behind him.

“I’m home.” he called; knowing that at this point Elektra should be the only person inside the house. The first other living creature besides himself that he saw was one of the cats who sauntered by in a very cat like way.

There was something wrong.

Placing the bag he was holding, one that contained groceries which was his cover for leaving the house on the floor. Turning around his eyes fell on the one thing is the room that was setting off his ‘something is wrong’ radar. The file on the table he knew. He knew it well.

“Shit.” he muttered too himself before heading over towards the folder. Where the hell did it come from? How did it get on the fucking table in his damn living room?

All he had to do now was wait for the storm that would no doubt come rumbling out from where ever in the house she currently presided.

A day to herself was a rare thing for Elektra, and she'd been looking forward to doing something a little different with her hair before then simply relaxing a while. Maybe some yoga before going for a jog or something. Her shoulder would never heal properly, which meant the definite end of her Quidditch career for good, but she could find some other active pursuits she supposed. She had thought she might look into such today, at least until she saw the large thick envelope that had been slid beneath the front door. Confused, she'd picked it up and opened the door to look around, but whoever had delivered it had already gone, and so she opened it to take a peek, only to see that it was a full IWP file with Ashkar's name... or multiple names, on it.

This led to a conundrum of a sort for the woman. Clearly it had been slipped there for a reason. The note attached to the front very specifically told her that she needed to read it. And Ele had a feeling that if she did open it up and read through it then she was probably going to be very unhappy, or very upset, or the most likely scenario was both. Things had finally calmed down again for them though, even though Ash was still completely either ignorant or oblivious to the fact that she felt the same way he did - despite her having basically said so months ago.

It was too much to want to think about in the moment, and so Elektra decided to do her hair first. She could decide what to do about the file afterward. She was really too tired of receiving surprises that pissed her off.

As it turned out, the sound of Ashkar's return just as she finished doing her hair meant that perhaps there was a chance of doing this without her having to become yelling mcyellington the angry partner now. She made her way from her room with her brows raised toward Ash as he seemed to stare at the folder. Clearly, he knew what it was, and what was contained within. She didn't say anything right away though, simply getting herself a can of spiced rum and cola from the fridge, before opening it and taking a sip as she walked over to the table where she took a seat and set a hand on the file, drawing it toward herself while looking at it.

"So, I haven't opened it yet. I don't suppose you want to tell me anything before I do? You know, clear the air before I probably see something that I'm not going to like? It was delivered specifically to me after all, and you are supposed to be my charge," Elektra tilted her head as she turned her gaze up toward Ashkar then, brows raising as she waited to see whether he would tell her himself whatever it was in here that she probably wasn't going to be happy about or not.

Ash’s eyes didn’t leave the file for what felt like a long time. He knew exactly what it was, knew how deep a hole that just opening would blow. The thing he had no idea about was how the hell it ended up on the damn table in the house he lived in. Someone within the company must have placed it here, but who and, more importantly, why? He ran a few fingers over the edge and noticed that it had yet to have been opened. Did that mean that Ely hadn’t realized it was there? If that was the case then he had a small window of time to remove it without her knowing.

That window closed when he heard her footsteps. Turning his head slightly, fingers slipping off the thick file as his eye brows knitted together at the site of her. She had dyed her hair, colours she used to have in her hair. Though that was years ago when she last had that look. What was the cause of the thrown back with hair colour? His eyes went back to the unopened file. Well, it wasn’t that; yet.

He followed her with his eyes as he walked around the kitchen, sorting herself out a drink and then perching herself on the chair across from him. Then she spoke, telling him the things he’d already deduced by himself. His eyes went back down to the file down being touched by her fingers, and back up too her eyes.

“If it was left for you then you should read it, though,” he said with a sigh “For the sake of honesty and not arguing I can tell you that this file contains information about me and my place within the international wizarding police.” turning around he picked up the bag of groceries he’d left by the kitchen door “I’m not your charge. The problem is I am not allowed to discuss everything out right. So you need to read it for the conversation too happen.” making his way to the cabinets he started putting things away.

“Your hair looks nice; I always liked it that way.” he stated, shutting the cabinets when he finished putting things away.

There was a brief moment where annoyance and frustration reached her features as she watched Ashkar. The fact that he hadn't shed much light on anything aside from some mysterious mention of how he wasn't her charge and that she should read it first causing her some brief irritation toward him. However, she simply sighed and opened the file as he went back to putting away the groceries that he'd brought home with him. Why did it always feel like there was something new that she was finding out? And not even the normal kinds of things that people learned about one another over time together, but big secret things that often tended to involve her a lot more than she had been allowed to know. She was glad for the decision to start sending Elena to daycare once a week for socialisation with other kids. It definitely helped that neither of the girls were around in case she lost her temper again.

"Hm? My hair? Uh, thanks... feels more like me this way," Elektra murmured, distracted by her reading too much to question his comment about having always liked it this way, though it would no doubt come back to mind at a later time. Rather, she was more focused on the profile in the folder that had been left there for her, brow furrowing as she began to realise that Ashkar wasn't a criminal at all, but in fact was a double agent of sorts. There were even brief mentions of her sister having been his agent partner for a long time as well, which meant... this didn't make sense. It meant that almost everyone she knew had been practically lying to her about things.

"I don't... so everything I've been told is basically false," The woman said, still skimming her gaze across the information that had been give to her by a mysterious someone. "Then why was I sent this? I am... utterly confused, and quite angry as well, but more so confused. What else has been kept from me? This is like, it's like... I honestly have no words even at the moment," Ele pushed the file away slightly as she slouched back in her chair, her confusion and irritation very clear in her features as she stared at the folder, before shaking her head a running a hand over her face while she tried to think of where to begin. She really had no idea, though her head then snapped toward Ashkar, "Wait, my hair was blonde already when we started working together." She frowned as she studied him.

If Ash was being completely honest with his self he should have known or at least suspected that this would have all come out at some point. After all, nothing stayed secret forever. It would just have been nice if he’d had some kind of warning before some unnamed person dropped his personal file on his own damn doorstep. The mystery of whoever decided to open this can of worms would be solved, that, he was confident of.

He wasn’t confident that the fall out of this would not have a lot of lasting damage between himself and Elektra. Then again, he’d done a fair amount of damage just by his announcement of his feelings all those months back.

Once he’d slotted away the last item, he turned and rested against the counter top waiting for Elektra too finish reading through the file and the inevitable explosion that would follow on from that.

“Not everything is false. I’ am British, I did attend Hogwarts and all of the information that you would have been given regarding my criminal career is accurate, the difference being that I wasn’t a criminal when doing those things.” he did specialize in gaining information from various sources within his job and finding people and objects that were coveted by a large number of people “I work for a part of the IWP which is more of a secret service, a secret within a secret. I don’t know why this was given too you but...I will find out and that person will be dealt with.”

He pushed off from the counter and around the table to the vacant chair across from her.

“Yes, you were blonde when he started officially working together, however, you are a public figure and I have seen multiple pictures of you sporting this colour hair.” a sigh followed this, since there was more than him seeing her picture in some magazine “But, in the spirit of finally getting the truth out there. You and I have met before. It was during the time you were with your Qudditch Team. I attended more than a few of your games with Emi. The first time we interacted was a long time ago. I believe you thought you had seen Emilia in the crowd, which you did, but we were there on a specific job and that meant she couldn’t be ousted. Emilia asked him to cause a distraction so she could sneak away.”

The memory was still very clear to him, the ‘distract her’ and him trying to find a distraction that didn’t call too much attention to himself.

“The distraction turned into me rather literally walking into you and spilling a drink down your uniform. At the time I did not have a beard and was sporting some terrifying short hair. I also believe I adopted a very thick Irish accent as well.”  he sighed as the memory of that look and accent came back “Now that you are aware of the basics, I can answer any and all questions you have.”

"The records kind of allude to the whole criminal thing being part of your... spy-cover," Elektra waved a hand at the open file folder as she slouched in her chair. She couldn't work out whether she was angry, frustrated, or simply just tired. Though she did know that she was even more suspect now about her sister's own part in it all. From what she could tell, it was as though Emilia had been a spy almost from the start as well, and some of Ashkar's explanation of how he knew about her hair hinted even more toward that. Why hadn't her sister ever told her though? They'd told each other everything. Elektra ran a hand through her newly coloured hair in mild frustration, which covered what felt like a thudding pain in her heart.

"So... she was a spy too? I don't get it... I thought she'd just gone straight into crime after she, after everything that happened before my last year at school. That's what she'd led me to believe when I met with her years later," Not that Elektra didn't understand the kind of secrecy that someone in the position of a deep cover agent would have to keep, simply just to protect those that are close to them. But still... it left something of a hole in her chest as she thought about it. Even while she listened to Ashkar, trying to pinpoint what game - there were so many she'd played in her time - she could have possibly met him.

"I can't-..." The woman began, but then recalled a time where the scenario he'd described did occur. She'd literally raced from the field after catching the Snitch, into the stands to try and seek out the familiar blonde woman she'd sworn was her twin. Only to have someone step right in front of her and spill their drink. She'd barely looked at the person, her gaze had still be trying to search out her sister, but she recalled the irritation as he continued to stall her by apologising and trying to brush the drink off her torso with a napkin.

"That was you..." Elektra frowned across toward him. Hearing his voice in the same accent only made the memory stronger, and her irritation grew again, even though she knew it was the past. She hadn't seen Emi in so long then, and had wanted to talk to her. The woman inhaled deeply, however, closing her eyes a moment as she counted silently before letting a sighed breath out. "What even is there to ask?" She then said, her voice almost sounding defeated, "If anything, I just feel like I've been a pawn this entire time, ever since I was contacted about her disappearance. Partnered up with my sister's old partner, under the belief of something that wasn't even true. To what end? I mean, is what happened to her even a mystery? Or am I just not being told about that either," Elektra knew in her heart that she would never see Emilia alive again, but what did the Agency know? What did Ashkar know?

How much more was there that Elektra was being kept from? And for what reason? She found herself feeling more and more tired, the more she thought about it, and simply propped her elbows on the table as she leaned forward, resting her face in her hands.

That went as well as he was expecting, in fact, it was going better than he thought it might. The problem was it unsettled him. The defeated look on her face, her slumped body position in the chair told him more than she perhaps realized. It was the posture of defeat. Ash would have really preferred if she’d got too her feet, stomped around whilst shouting and swearing at him. That showed anger and passion. It showed that she felt she had some right to her fight in this uphill battle.

The urge to rise from his seat move around the table and draw her into a comforting hug was squashed down quickly. He highly doubted she’d accept or receive any comfort from him, he who was the person that brought the news of deceit too her door. All he could do now was try and shed some light on her sister and he only had a little too shed in that regard.

“Yes, she was a spy as well. Emi did start out on the criminal track at first but was soon found and recruited into the Agency.” he was already an operative by the time the young woman had been brought in and it was a while before they officially partnered up. The thought of Emi on those first few days would have brought a smile to his face but like the desire to comfort, he squashed that down as well.

“She did very well and became, to my understanding, a prominent agent very quickly. It was three or four years after this that we were brought together for an assignment. I know she wanted to tell you, it’s one of the things she said the most, but, the agency has a need to know policy and very few people need to know. Family falls under the ‘must never know’ category. I believe as the years passed she didn’t say anything because you are a successful Auror and then had an extremely successful Quidditch career that put you in the lime light.” he sighed at this, knowing what he was going to say next “It’s also sad but we are led to believe that remaining distant from families is for their best interest.”

He lent back in his chair and watched her posture for a moment, taking in the rest of what she said. He could understand why she felt the way she did, everything had been a lie within a lie. He a man who had announced his feelings for her was a lie within the lie.

“I can say with some confidence that you are not a pawn in some masterful game. I believe that the IWP very much value you. I know that Emilia loved you immensely and I don’t feel that I should repeat my feelings regarding you at this moment.” it was as he finished this sentences that he felt something warm against his torso.

A very subtle look down told him that his wound had reopened and was slowly leaking blood though the gauze and onto his shirt. It was a bloody tricky curse he’d been hit with.

“I do not know what has happened to her and I don’t suspect I will never be told if the Agency knows. They may confirm things eventually, but never the how, why or who of it. That being said, I have been poking around in places I know she had informants. Thought I was on a good path, but, it turned out to be a dead end.” one hand came down and pressed against his wound, hoping to stem the flow of blood and at least relieved that he was wearing a dark top. Dark clothes covered injuries and blood well.

If Ele was taking it well, it was mainly because she felt like the secrets were just never ending at this point. Every time they appeared to begin to settle a little, and things fell back into a kind of normal state, and that maybe she could address the whole deal with Ash being completely oblivious how she felt about him, another curve-ball was tossed at them. She didn't appear surprised at the confirmation that Emi had been brought in to the Agency. The story of how they caught her and convinced her that they weren't out to persecute her so that she would join them would probably never be told - at least not from the perspective of her sister - but it seemed Ash knew a little about it.

"She was always the faster one to pick up on things, especially when it came to deception and sneaking around. It only makes sense that she was a spy the whole time," Elektra murmured quietly. The twins had each been talented in their own ways, but Emilia had always been much more intelligent, scarily so. Elektra had excelled in more physical pursuits, as demonstrated by her Quidditch career and skills as an Auror. Ele also knew that it was only sensible that she be kept in the dark regarding her twin's career and life in general. Even her nieces had been a surprise when she'd been asked if she would take over custody.

It was like Elektra had lost her sister long before Emilia actually vanished off the face of the Earth.

"I should have been told the truth about her when I started with the IWP," Elektra said after a small time, the defeat giving way to a spark of anger as she glared somewhat at the file in front of her. "They were expecting me to replace her in most of the missions I started out on, and left out information that would have been fucking good to know!" The file was gripped with one hand and flung across the room like a frisbee, papers flying everywhere as she huffed. "If they valued me and respected me, it's the least the could have done! Hells, it would have been good to know the full truth about you as well! What was the point in making me think I was babysitting a criminal who was being forced to work for the Agency?? Unless they doubt my ability to hold secrets?" The woman inhaled deeply after her small rant and relaxed her shoulders.

"And you bring up how you feel, but still haven't even acknowledged the fact that I told you that I felt the same way, back when you first admitted it. It is eternally frustrating to find out that the man I care for still has more fucking secrets even after saying there'd be no more," Elektra sighed long as she flopped forward, effectively planting her face on the tabletop, because really, what else could she do at this point? It was just another bunch of facts that she was going to have to deal with, but it was getting more and more difficult to feel like she could trust anything she was told.

It almost appeared as though she had come to some kind of closure around her sister’s secret life. But, Ash knew that appearance were almost always deceiving. Him, sitting there, was a prime example. He was bleeding, had a mild sensation of pain as the curse was reawakening and yet, there he sat a look on his face that portrayed nothing of what was actually going on. The guilt, the shame and the annoyance this entire fiasco was causing too bubble up within him was masked, it would always be masked. His eyes remained on her, reading her expressions and body language. Listening to the words as the spilled out of her mouth, he suspected that anger would be coming and so when it did break free from her it was no surprise.

“Only the very top of the IWP know about the Agency I work for. It exists within the IWP but it isn’t wholly apart of it. Most Agents and managers have no idea that it is there. They couldn’t tell you something that didn’t know. That is regarding both Emilia and me.” though the idea of her babysitting him did bring him a mild sense of amusement, especially along with the idea that she would have had to fill out those report forms about his behavior and progress.

It could continue down that road, addressing her idea that maybe they felt she couldn’t keep a secret. Then crux of that is it wasn’t her job to keep that secret and she shouldn’t have too, that tended to make the world they walked in safer. The fact that someone had decided she did need to know, that putting her on a potentially dangerous path was outweighed by their innate desire to, what? Be the whistleblower? Ruin a working partnership? Have Elektra feel indebted to them?

That was an alley he would have to venture down later. A later in which he wasn't injured and facing a pissed off witch.

Then of course she brought up his announcement of feelings and how she’d returned them. This was something he’d apparently not noticed, though all he could remember was sitting there with his arm around her and her telling him that she missed him. To his mind that equated too ‘I like and care about you’ but both those things could mean so much less and more. Then she mentioned secrets, the real crux of the issue.

“Keeping secrets keeps me alive.” he said “It keeps my family safe in a world they would never be.” another shot of pain, he moved the hand on his torso and saw the red stain of blood on his hand briefly before putting it down, his eyes barely moving from Elektra’s face “As for that evening when I told you that I am in love with you, which I am, you expressed that you missed me. That would were happy for me to come home. There is many ways those words could be translated and it is safer, for me, too not make assumptions. So, I haven’t acted on that because I couldn’t be sure. I need be sure before I act.”

He doubted that would be well met, then again, at this point he doubted anything he could do would be well met.

"Yes, yes, I understand that, it is very important and secret. But if I am filling in for one of these super secret agents, one would think that I would be appraised of the situation! It's just as dangerous for me to not know about who I'm impersonating, as it is to know!" Elektra huffed again as she lifted a hand to run her fingers through her freshly dyed hair, "Because someone would have known who could have told me. The people in that faction clearly would have known what I was asked to do! They would have been the ones who needed me! Especially if you're saying that she became prominent!" The woman's hands gestured wildly, knowing that she was mostly just yelling now because she didn't know what else to do. The past couldn't be changed. Now she was getting all the details, but what if something worse had happened?

After all, Elektra's shoulder was permanently damaged because she had been mistaken for her sister only just a year or so ago. She was almost killed, and she was pretty certain that actually knowing what level of danger she was dealing with over the past few years would have given her a heads up at least. She had no idea who had sent the file or why, and assumed it was to cause trouble, but it was done now. Whoever it was had done it and now probably were sitting back waiting to see what would happen.

"I get the secrets thing. It's frustrating as fuck, but I get it," The woman breathed out a long exhale as she ruffled her hair some. She almost felt like she needed to go take another shower again, just to try and get her head straight. What she did notice though just then, was the way that Ash had been holding his torso and then looked at his hand before placing it down. Immediately, her gaze narrowed on him and she got up and walked around to his seat, before simply lifting his shirt up from his abdomen and offering a very grouchy frown at him, "You've been sitting here bleeding! Accio wand." Ele's hand reached out to catch her wand as it flew from her bedroom.

"Why didn't you fix this up as soon as you got home? Or even beforehand?"  The woman demanded plainly before then casting a healing spell on the wound to close it up. At least casting had always been something she was good at, though the man really should have done something about it sooner instead of bleeding all over his clothing. "Don't even take proper care of yourself. Just my luck that I had to fall in love with a super secret agent who sits there bleeding on the chair while pretending that he's fine," She grouched, breezing over the words she'd said mostly because she didn't know how to say it directly to him, it seemed easier to make a complaint and just slide it in there. She'd never thought herself as one to feel it, and so felt awkward. But annoyance was good for covering up awkwardness.

Ash decided that it was probably the best thing to do was sit quietly whilst she angry ranted, watching her arms spiral around as she did so. He admitted that her points were valid and even points he had made himself when this was brought to his attention. The response to that was boiled down to ‘she doesn’t need to know’. He went with it, mainly because at the time his alliance was with Emilia and not her. Then he was told he would keep the criminal angle with her. So he did and that’s what he did. Then the feelings started to emerge and grow.

He opened his mouth to say something it response to her comment about secrets when she caught sight of something, stood up and walked around towards him. He followed her movements closely, and then she went for this top. Clearly he’d not been a sneaky about it as he’d thought he was being. He moved his hand from his torso and watched her as she called her wand.

“Ever so slightly.” he replied, knowing that it wasn’t slight but he also knew that the wound would likely reopen a few times. Then she continued to berate him whilst doing her healing. Casting his eyes downwards, he watched as the wound closed. It was always interesting watching the skin start to knit together. A small scare would remain; it did with those sorts of curses. Then she mentioned that she loved him, though somewhat grumpily.

His eyes jumped back up too her face, his hand coming out to cup her chin, repositioning her head so their eyes met.

“That is the clarity I needed to act.” he said softly, using his other free hand to pull his shirt down. That didn’t mean he would act right there and then, especially since she was still angry at the entire situation and he was the person she could take that anger out on. Though the urge to act was strong and some blood loss did not help with him controlling himself. Leaning forwards he pulled her into a brief kiss before pulling back and looking at her face.

That was when he saw it.

“Shit, I got my blood all over your face.” he said summoning face cloth without doing more than raising one of his hands “I’m sorry.” he apologized as he handed over the face cloth.
