It had been a very long day, but it was finally drawing to a close. Diana wanted nothing more than to go back to the Fairgood household, crawl into bed and sleep for a week, but the fact of the matter was that she had promised Olivia and May that she would visit that night for dinner. With the sudden workload spike she imposed on herself with writing to various freelance publications, the witch had been wholly unable of meeting up with her friends much at all in the past few months. It was finally time to correct that, she thought, as she jogged up the stairs of the apartment building that housed the couple.

As the blonde got to the door she raised her hand to knock, but halted her movement as an odd scent attacked her nose - that of something burning. Reflexively she pulled her head away and looked around. The intensity of the smell diminished, and there wasn't any smoke around her that she could see. Re-approaching the door right up until the tip of her nose was pressed to it, there was no mistaking it: it came from that specific apartment.

Heart speeding up with concern for her friends, Diana didn't think twice. She retrieved her wand from her bag, not caring if there were Muggles around to watch her (which, fortunately, there weren't), and charmed the lock of the door open. As soon as the spell hit, she was already barging in, wand firmly held in front of herself as she carefully traversed the home.

"Liv? May? Anybody home?" She called out while covering her airways with her forearm, eyes squinting through the smoke and trying to look for a source so to put out the fire - she could already listen to the flames licking whatever objects they were consuming, and had a water spell up her sleeve to deal with them.

Liv had gotten home earlier that day, she couldn’t wait to surprise May, they could simply hang out together for a while longer before Diana arrived for dinner. Diana had been working so hard that Liv thought she deserved something nice and getting May on board was quite easy. Liv checked the mail and searched for May, she was nowhere to be found. “Maybe she went out to buy some groceries…” Liv thought to herself, it wasn’t the first time that May had done something like that, perhaps she had an idea of what they could make for dinner.

As Olivia waited, she noticed something strange, May’s keys were home, May never leaves the apartment keys behind. The young half-veela got up from her seat and rushed to find May’s things, they weren’t there, her trunk wasn’t there? Why would she leave? Oliva tried to think of an explanation to why May’s things were gone, but the same thing came to mind, May had left.

Oliva couldn’t believe that May was gone, it was impossible, everything they shared…Had May forgotten about everything? About them? Was she even planning on leaving? Why would she leave? Olivia screamed as she reached the living room, her hand suddenly changed color and her fingers quickly turned in claws, there was a slight fire on her hands, that when Liv touched it caused their couch to be set on fire.

Everything went red for Olivia, she was so angry and hurt that she couldn’t understand the common tongue. After a while the couch continued to burn, along with certain things from May, half the house was destroyed, the table was broken in half, a few chairs were now charcoal, windows were broken, everything was a mess. Olivia was just there watching it burn when Diana got into the house, she didn’t even bother answering her friend.

The clouds of smoke thickened the closer she got to the living room of the small apartment. Before Diana walked into it, she turned and closed the front door with a wand so not to alert the building's inhabitants - from the sheer destruction and charred items laying around, she could tell it was no accident, and explaining it to the authorities would prove to be quite the feat. Step by step, she walked into the room, only to meet a couch set alight and a very, very angry Olivia.

Coughs escaped the throat of the journalist as she got closer to the source. What could have enraged Olivia so much? May wasn't around, did they have some sort of fight? She knew that Olivia was able to hold her temper, and was having a hard time picturing what sort of subject could incense her in such a way.

Opting to spring to action, the blonde aimed her wand at the couch, and water proceeded to spill forth in a steady jet. Ignoring her friend's presence for the moment, Diana focused on subduing the fire, wanting to eliminate of the source of the suffocating smoke prior to engaging her in any way, lest she collapse before being able to.

Liv watched Diana as she approached the living room, her eyes followed the blonde’s every move, for a moment it seemed as if Olivia was going to attack Diana on sight, but Diana was innocent, she wasn’t the one Olivia was angry at. The half-veela didn’t even move when a water spell was cast on the burning couch.

The half-veela moved around, she watched Diana’s every move slowly and carefully and that’s when her hands went back to normal and so did her facial expression. Liv didn’t seem distraught over the fact that the couch had been on fire, there was anger in her eyes. “May left.” It was the only thing Olivia could tell Diana, it was the only thing she knew it had happened.

The idea that someone loved her for her and not because of her nature was wonderful, but whatever had happened between her and May was a lie, perhaps May just lied, played with her as a cat plays with a mouse until it delivers it’s finishing blow. Liv felt like the mouse in the story, she had been played, it was the only logical explanation, or at least the only explanation she could come up with. If May had been kidnaped or taken her things would have stayed, but no, some of her things were gone, the essentials for someone who’s going to run away.

Diana's gaze locked with Olivia's as the half-Veela watched her. The student's very core was inching her towards a fight or flight situation - an angry Veela wasn't something to be taken lightly. However, Diana refused to leave her friend alone, and she refused to raise her wand at her, no matter the peril. She merely concentrated on putting out the fire, which proved to be a success as her own neck was spared and the flames soon met their end.

Diana didn't immediately reply to Olivia's short statement, opting to mull over the information. 'May left'. By witnessing the widespread destruction, one would think the Dhampir dodged a bullet by leaving the house; but Diana knew Olivia better than that. It always took a nigh insurmountable amount of frustration for her to flip out in such away; the same could be said for May, whom was one of the calmer people she knew and always willing to talk things out, even if getting something more personal out of her was like pulling teeth. Whatever had been the argument that caused it, or situation, it had to come from a clash of principles that was practically unheard of in that relationship.

First things first. She opened the broken windows (as well as the ones that weren't, and with a flick of her wand, the smoke was moved outside to disperse into the street, leaving the air in that room far more breathable. Diana finally had some room to stop coughing, although she felt mildly dizzy from the effort. Leaving the windows open, she holstered her wand so to let the air circulate.

"...May left." She eventually repeated her friend's words, taking a step closer to her, albeit being cautious about it. "Can you elaborate on that? What happened?"

Olivia seemed to be calm now. She closed her eyes for a moment before looking at Diana again. She was still angry, and it was clear in her eyes that if May were to walk through that door one of two things would happen, either Liv would hug her, or Liv would burn her alive right there in their living room. The half-veela continued to pay attention to Diana, who didn’t seem to comment on what she had said, maybe she knew about this, but the thought didn’t make her angry, only sad.

When Diana finally commented on it, Liv knew the blonde was as confused as she was, that she had no idea that May had left or planned to leave. “I don’t know, I came home and thought he was out shopping…” Liv used a mending spell on the couch and sat on it. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes again, she wanted to be calm, she didn’t want to burn anything or anyone. “…but her keys are there, some of her things are gone too…”

It was getting harder and harder to keep the veil, soon Olivia’s sadness would be evident to Diana, she needed to explain as much as she can because when the reality hits her, she isn’t sure if she’s going to be able to talk.

It seemed that Diana's initial assumption had been wrong. Rage notwithstanding, Olivia seemed more confused than anything else. There had been no argument; from how her friend was speaking, Diana was led to believe everything had been fine up to that point. In fact, it would have made no sense for the couple to invite her over if there had been any kind of trouble in paradise. May had abandoned them and left everything behind. 'Perhaps not everything.'

Reaching for her smartphone in the bag she was carrying, the girl called up May. After a few seconds she could hear the ringing in the speaker of her phone; it came accompanied by the dull sound of a ringtone somewhere else in the house. It seemed she left behind any means of reaching her too. Sighing in defeat, the blonde ended the call and placed her own mobile device back where it belonged.

She sat on the armrest of the newly repaired couch, too busy with her thoughts to bother asking for permission. Her eyes landed on her friend in a sad yet inquisitive manner as she reviewed the matter in her head. "...This makes no sense..." She muttered. As far as she knew (which wasn't very much at all, admittedly), May wasn't the type to get up and leave; in fact, she was the type to stick to a situation through thick and thin, as evidenced through various bonds she had witnessed the girl forge over the years. To make herself unreachable was absolutely unthinkable. What could push the Dhampir to such an extreme?

It was something she felt like she could relate to, in a twisted way. She had to flee Mildura with her brother and leave everything behind. She ripped him away from everything he knew and loved for the sake of giving him a future, and erased their past completely. With her background, it was hard not to minimally sympathized with the idea May didn't do this to cause any harm; but, nevertheless, Olivia was one of her closest friends. As such, Diana would always take her side.

"Do you want to crash somewhere else tonight? I don't think it will do you any good staying in here right now." She needed to breathe, first and foremost. She didn't think the Fairgood household would be a good place for her to stay. Perhaps Diana could scrounge up some money for a hotel...?

None of it made sense, if May had a problem, she should have told Liv, one person just doesn’t leave like that without saying a word, without even hinting that they were going to leave, earlier that morning everything was alright, she couldn’t understand why May would leave. At that moment Liv didn’t want to understand, she was not only sad, but she was also heartbroken that May had left her. The half-veela took a deep breath and stared at Diana for a moment.

At that moment Liv didn’t care about May’s intentions or reasons to leave, Olivia thought they were in it together, that they would try to help one another, but it was probably just Olivia’s way of seeing things, or maybe May just grew tired of her, took whatever she needed and left everything else behind. The thought made Olivia angry again, how could someone fake for so long? It wasn’t going to happen again, there won’t be a next time.

When Diana spoke, Liv looked up at the blonde. “No, I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about it.” She had decided that what May had would go into a storage room at her aunts, maybe one day she can have some fun burning those things, but for now she just wanted to forget. “I ... I don’t have dinner … I’m sorry.”

There was a feeling Olivia couldn’t understand, it made her feel not only sad but hurt and angry as well, she felt lost, abandoned and alone, but she also had this rage about everything, even towards Diana, who was completely innocent.

"Are you sure?" Was Olivia just putting up a strong face so not to worry Diana? Or was she doing that for the sake of surviving the situation? Either way, the journalist didn't warm up much to that response at all out of concern. She believed that Olivia needed to let it out - not the sheer need for property destruction, of course, but the sadness and pain of heartbreak and betrayal. Sticking around would only compound on that feeling, she could imagine. Seeing every place May had stood in, every item she used, having her scent linger around, and even seeing things that one had given the other. It felt like a truly powder keg type of situation, especially given the nature of Olivia's magic.

"...In any case... Don't worry about it. Do you want me to order something for you?" Something quick and easy for mindless consumption, although she had the feeling her half-Veela friend wouldn't be too hungry at that point. In fact, she thought it would be miraculous if she could get Olivia to ingest anything at that point in time, and at least until the next day.

A thought occurred to her. Perhaps she should poke at her contacts, and see if they could find the Dhampir; but, if things were as they looked, how would one find someone who didn't want to be found?

Liv rose her head to look at Diana. Was the blonde doubting Liv’s words? Why would she even think such a thing? Liv had a short moment to control her anger, it wasn’t Diana’s fault, she was just trying to be a good friend, Liv shouldn’t be mad at her, she asked out of concern and not because she was doubting her. Liv took a deep breath to control her anger and closed her eyes for a brief moment before looking up at her friend. “Yes, I’m sure, you don’t need to worry.” Liv could always call her aunt, the older veela always knew what to do and what to say, it was amazing how the woman could control herself easily. “I will call my aunt…she’ll know what I should do to all of these things…” she looked around until her eyes landed on Diana again.

“I don’t want to eat anything, I’m not hungry, not now.” She would have to eat eventually but it wasn’t going to be that day, or probably the next day, Liv just wanted to be left alone, not have people ask her questions, or even have people next to her, everything was getting hard to control. “Maybe tomorrow…” she finally spoke, there wasn’t much to say in that situation, maybe Liv should skip a few days of classes, she didn’t want to burn anyone alive or to be expelled for attempted murder.

“I think I’m going to call my aunt…” she got up to call the older veela, Diana couldn’t do anything unless she could turn back time to prevent May from leaving.
