The weather was finally cooling off (even if temporarily) in Narragyambie, and a certain Sturt duo took the opportunity to venture outside. Rachel Ryan, in particular, was quite happy about this turn of events - not even all the sunscreen in the world could protect her from the wrath of the sizzling sun, and that had been the second Summer she had to endure in one year. Why did Australia's weather have to be backwards? Blasted science.

Wooden bat and baseball in hand, she had taken her new acquaintance to the lake area of town, wanting a reprieve from the school's atmosphere. They were on break, right? What sense did it make to stay on campus? The blonde that followed her agreed mostly out of boredom, and they wound up playing a few rounds of batting near a spot they'd most certainly have to make use of during the hotter days.

"Baseball player, huh?" Lisa, Rachel's acquaintance, spoke as the ball she had thrown previously at the redhead was launched back at her. She caught it without much difficulty and tightened her grip around it as she prepared herself to throw again. "More like drunk pinata hitter if you're lucky. Is that all you got?" She didn't even mean the little jab - she was just tired of Rachel missing everything she'd thrown up until then. It couldn't possibly be Lisa's fault - she was the star Chaser of her Quidditch team, and that came with excellent aim. Maybe Rachel was just rusty? She only wanted to get the girl to do better. And boy, did it work.

"Shut up!" Spouted the redhead in anger. The response she got was the baseball launched her way, and for the first time that afternoon she hit it.

Hard.

It had been much harder than they even agreed to, so they wouldn't lose the ball to the water; Lisa's head jerked in the direction of the ball as it flew through the air past her and into the distance. "Damn, I take it back." She found herself saying, legitimately impressed at how far the projectile made it with the swing. Rachel, however, panicked.

"BALL!" She yelled out in that direction as she noticed the ball was hurtling towards someone...

Hugo, having taken to wandering around outside to appreciate the Australian weather and the grounds, was in a world of his own. The German had been spending time trying to familiarise himself with the place, and enjoying it whilst he was at it.

He'd dressed in a simple green button up, sleeves pulled up to his elbows and jeans that were more ripped than fabric at the front. At least it would keep his legs cooler, but as for tan marks? It was a sacrifice he chose to make. It was hot in winter. The Reed's certainly didn't mind coming from the high amounts of snow and hail to a place like this. Hugo's usually pale skin had become tanned from his breif time in Australia, a trait he'd gotten from his father who was already olive skinned.

The lake was quickly becoming Hugo's favourite part of the Narrie area, it reminded him of their holiday home in Spain that one summer however many years ago, where there was a lovely big river running through a campsite. All the kids of the camp used to have races in it or cool off when it got too hot.

He briefly looked around him, a content smile on his face at the slight wind that just about kept his hair out of his eyes. Hugo'd fumble around in his pocket before he pulled out some sunglasses, sliding them onto his face as a protection from the sun.

Although, that may not have been the right decision, as whilst he heard a loud shout of 'BALL', he certainly didn't see it coming towards him. His thoughts had been cut short at the sudden thump on his head, the shock literally knocking him to the ground. Now on his backside, he'd push the sunglasses onto the top of his head so it was pushing his fringe back too. The teen would pull a hand up to his temple, gently running his fingers over the sore spot that was now there. A glance down told him that it had been a baseball of sorts, and he took it in his hand whilst looking for the direction that it had came from.

Ah

It most likely had been the individuals with a bat between them. He'd hold the ball up above his head, not feeling quite like getting up after a knock like that. Clearing his throat, Hugo would yell over to them, his accent seeping through, that weird mixture of British and German.

"Bullseye."

Both girls' eyes were stuck to the projectile as it flew across the clearing, hurtling towards the unsuspecting teen. Rachel visibly winced on impact. "Shit." She cursed under her breath. Dropping the wooden bat where she stood, the Irish lass broke into a run towards the stranger. She hated hurting people - save for when in Quidditch matches, of course- and the guilt was overwhelming. She had to make it better somehow.

In the meantime, Lisa's reaction was the opposite: she didn't feel the least bit sorry for this person. Rather, she felt very impressed by Rachel's aim and hitting strength, and couldn't wait to see her in the Sturt team tryouts in a month. She had mentioned she intended to, after all. As far as Lisa was concerned, they had a nice first string Beater right there. Moving to take the discarded bat, the blonde moved towards the pair at a leisure pace, lightly twirling the wooden weapon as she went.

"Hey! Are you okay?" The redhead asked as soon as she was within earshot, concern struggling to show through her usual grumpy expression. Brows furrowed as she slowed down. She was seventeen, she could just heal the damage away without risking being caught by the Trace; but what if this person was a Muggle? She had never met him before, and being all too new to Narragyambie, it certainly put a damper on her general spatial awareness for such things. Hopefully he hadn't gotten a concussion...

Once he was satisfied that there was no blood coming from his head, but what surely would be a fat bruise if the slightly swelled lump was anything to go by, Hugo stood up. Originally looking to the left of him, Hugo tried to identify where the heck this ball came from when he remembered the two girls with the bats. Huh. Maybe he should've remembered that. Ah well, a little concussion never hurt anybody.

The shout from the redhead making her way over to him caused the skinny dude to twirl around to face her. Her words didn't match her..frustrated? expression. He wasn't sure if she knew this, but it wasn't his fault he got hit in the head with an off-course baseball.

"Still breathing, so I'd say so. That was a powerful hit, you have a good arm." He'd compliment, holding the ball out for her. He may now have to introduce himself to the others when the school started up with a bruise on his temple, but he was still polite. There was no possible way that she could have aimed for his moving form, and it just happened that it was his unlucky self that it happened to hit.

Rachel slowed down to a halt as she approached. It seemed that the little sprint hadn't made much of a dent on her stamina - for a moment, she couldn't help but be relieved she was a runner to begin with, so running that distance in such a short amount of time didn't cripple her. Her brows furrowed at the sight of the lump. Everyone already needed copious amounts of ice just to stay cool under that sun, and now she just went and had him need it for other things. 'Great going, Rach. Great going.'

"...Sorry 'bout that." She muttered. Running a palm through her hair as she closely inspected the damage. "Maybe run back into town 'n ask for somebody to lend ya some ice?" It would be the easiest thing to form but she had no idea if this teenager was a wizard as well. She didn't exactly want to get arrested for it.

"Everything alright?" Asked a certain blonde out loud, a little ways away from them. By that point she had hoisted the bat up and over her shoulder. "Doesn't look as bad as it could've been." Still, the skill was undeniable. Like it or not, the ability to cause such casualties was a very valuable skill for the team, after all.

Hugo'd glance between the girls. Quite opposite approaches, if he did say so himself.

He decided to answer the one that had expressed concern, giving her a small smile. "I'll go back to my uh, accomodation, and get some there. Don't worry about it, a knock on the head didn't hurt Isaac Newton so I'm sure I'll be fine. Thank you though."

Hugo would put his hand to his side, trying to ignore the throb in his head as he offered the ball back to her with his other. "Belongs to you, I presume."

Next, he focused on the farther away female, clearing his throat so he could call over since his previous talking had been on the quiet side. Hugo never was the loudest of kids.

"Everything's good, and you're right- my head is still on my shoulders. Please tell me you two are on a baseball team or something, with that hit." He'd joke, though he was serious about the baseball thing.

"Accommodation, huh. How far away's that?" Rachel asked as she got within arm's reach. She took the ball that was offered to her, and on reflex she glanced at the wound caused due to her remarkably accurate batting skill - and winced a second time. That couldn't possibly feel good. Though given the situation, it was a wonder that she hadn't knocked him clean out. "With a toss like that, y'might have a concussion, mate. I'll take ya there."

"That's the spirit." Said Lisa, completely ignoring the redhead's plight - she was of the school of thought that if you could stand, you should, regardless of the consequences. If you didn't, you were quite the pansy and not worth everyone's time. She couldn't help but admire the fortitude of the boy to stand after such a blow. Granted, it was no bludger (which she's had the pleasure to spend weeks in an infirmary wing over multiple times in her career), but it was still commendable. "But... Yeah. Something like that."

The ball was tossed to Lisa, whom caught it on reflex without much difficulty. "Are you gonna pay me to carry this or something?" She asked with a fake air of annoyance. Not catching on to the joke, Rachel just rolled her eyes in exasperation.

"Just shaddap 'n help me make up for this crap."
