Welcome to Tallygarunga, an original roleplay set in the Harry Potter universe. Set in present-day Australia, tensions are high between the Ministry of Magic and the only Ministry-run wizarding school in the country. Become like the other snooty private schools? Not a chance.

Originally established in August 2006, Tallygarunga prides itself on an inclusive and active community. Once part of the Tally family, always part of the Tally family. Whether you're here for the first time, the thousandth time, or returning after a long time---welcome home.

    Magic & Technology

    Magic & Tech
Australian wizarding culture is very different to that found in the UK. Australian wizards are largely more comfortable with muggles and more familiar with their technology. Unless raised in a family that enforces a divide between what is wizarding and what is muggle, most Australian wizarding children will have been regularly exposed to current muggle technology.
    Magic vs technology
There is a long-standing debate across the wizarding world as to what is actually better. Some claim that technology is "magic of the brain", others believe that magic is inherently superior. Some believe that magic makes people lazy, and that nothing replaces "good honest work" and do everything by hand.

Most wizards will have some opinion on technology, and some are quite vehement in expressing them.
    Magical interference
One of the main reasons more wizards don't adopt muggle technology is not lack of familiarity, but lack of compatibility. Even when not actively casting spells, wands carry a large amount of residual magic.

And magic wrecks havoc on almost anything with a circuit board. Unless specially adapted to work in a high-magic environment, devices behave in very unexpected ways. For instance, an iPod brought onto Tallygarunga grounds may randomly (and without being switched on) play that one song the owner absolutely hates... even if the song is not on the iPod.

Magical energy also destroys wifi signals, mobile phone reception, and digital TV reception. Wizards who desperately wanted to continue watching Neighbours after the digital channel switch had to purchase specialised TV antennas with a magic filter.

In most cases, a wizarding version of muggle technology is available -- for the right amount of cash. Put simply: one does not simply buy something from Harvey Norman and expect it to work as intended.
    Operational areas
As Narragyambie is both a wizarding and muggle town, most technology will work fine unless surrounded by many wizards carrying wands. The same goes for general areas of Melbourne.

However, even if no wizards are present, the amount of residual magic on the campuses of Tallygarunga and Victoria Magical University, and the halls of the Victorian Ministry of Magic and the Australian Ministry of Magic is substantial enough to require the device be adapted for use in a high-magic environment.
