Aurors & The DMLE Although listed separately in our Positions Available system, the Auror Force is actually a sub-branch of the official Department of Magical Law Enforcement (DMLE). Thus, all Aurors are considered employees of DMLE, but not all employees of DMLE are Aurors.
The Auror Force has a strict chain of command, where Aurors first report to their immediate unit chief or captain. These captains report to the Head of the Victorian Auror Force, who in turn reports to the Head of Magical Law Enforcement. The Auror Force The Department of Magical Law Enforcement's Auror Force operates in a similar manner to the muggle police force. It spans from minor positions keeping law and order in magical society, to investigative task forces and specialist units designed to tackle larger issues.
A majority of Aurors fill the lower ranks, and are assigned to an area or office for general law keeping. These are usually fresh-out-of-training Aurors who haven't yet proven their skills in the department. They deal with minor offenses, underage magic, public and unapproved magic, minor creature incidents, and other small matters that keep the wizarding society running smoothly.
Specialist Auror Task Forces Aurors that prove themselves in the lower ranks may be promoted to areas of greater responsibility, or to specialist forces that suit their particular talents. These include investigative branches for long-term operations into wizarding criminals, beast smuggling rings, illicit potion production, and other such intensive operations.
Also included in the Specialist Auror Task Forces is the famed "hit wizard" branch, an elite force trained to subdue and eliminate highly dangerous wizarding criminals. Child protection and safety units also operate under the Specialist Auror Task Forces banner.
The Department of Magical Law Enforcement The DMLE is the name given to the branch as a whole, and generally refers to the administrative side rather than the actual law and enforcement side.
High-ranking members of the department will usually have been trained first as an Auror and gained years of experience on the ground and through specialist forces before taking on a "desk job" with the department.
The DMLE also contains the wizarding court system, lawyers, law makers, judges and penal system. A large number of general administrative and office staff are also employed by the DMLE to support the department.
