Anything else is up to you.
Maxwell was born to a long line of Muggles whom have always tended to the local graveyard. He took to the occupation like fish to water - it came in stark contrast to his charming, smooth personality and he always enjoyed a healthy amount of popularity growing up despite the superstition and reputation associated with the family. Eventually that same raw charisma enchanted a local witch, Janelle, and the two were quick to form a happy family.
He was introduced to magic shortly after the birth of his first child, Aspen, whom displayed magical acumen that couldn't be hidden as well as Janelle hid hers. Given his unhealthy obsession with the occult, as was par for the course with his family, he wasn't frazzled by his wife's true nature. In fact, the couple went on to have three more kids - first, Mary Joselyn (or MJ), and then the fraternal twins Justice and Vivian.
Unfortunately, the stress of that last birth was too much for Maxwell's wife to bear. She slipped into a coma and eventually passed away, leaving behind a grieving father of four with a job that hardly made up monetarily for five mouths. He reached out to his own parents and Janelle's in hopes of getting some help but they all ignored him. For once in his life, he was truly on his own.
Surviving on multiple shifts, babysitting friends and local contributions to his problem, the family survived even if barely. Poverty ensured they never left Koonyah, but fortunately his children seemed to understand what was going on to some extent as they never asked for much of anything. The financial burden was minimally lifted a few years ago, though definitely through a way nobody enjoyed - Vivian disappeared from her Muggle school without leaving a trace, further breaking the Clarke family. While it's been generally agreed that she was kidnapped, some of the family members never gave up on the notion she'd come back.
As a result, he grew exceedingly overprotective of the children he had left. He withdrew MJ and Justice from the school Vivian was in and enrolled them in Whitlam Bilby on Aspen's advice. Life went on, painfully, agonizingly, but he would be damned if he didn't protect the only people he had left in his life at that point, no matter the cost.
After all these years, the only one of his kids that seems minimally apt to follow in the family trade is MJ, given her propensity to spend time in the graveyard and talk to its ethereal inhabitants. Will Maxwell start to push the girl in that direction?
