Bastian and Zoey Rhodes were once the best kept secret couple of Quidditch history, they couldn't possibly tell the world about their love or they would be separated. No mingling of that sort between teammates, that was the rule. The rule was broken when Zoey became pregnant with their first son, Mathew. When their secret came out, Zoey decided to become a stay at home mother and retire from Quidditch so that Bastian could continue. 3 Years later another son was born, one that enjoyed babbling and cooing through the entire night; Sean.
Sean was raised to be well mannered and tough, much like his father. As soon as he could fly he was on a broom and as soon as he was seven he had all of the different Quidditch secrets down. His father desired both of his sons to be just as amazing at the sport as he had. Sean was excited to get away from the madness of the constant training when he received his Tallygarunga letter. Unknowing that his father had actually signed on to be the coach.
Quickly after being sorted into Sturt, his father had him training again, this time on the Tallygarunga team as an alternate, it couldn't look like favoritism after all. Sean quickly became more determined than ever to please his father, if only to get him off of his back. He studied hard in school and became one of the best in his charms and herbology classes, even tutoring some students who needed the extra boost. It looked good on a transcript too.
When Sean was 15 his brother was in a serious Quidditch accident and became mentally- not there. It was hard going back to the game after seeing what happened to his big brother but dad became even stricter and forced him to train twice as long to make sure that something like what happened to Matt wouldn't happen to him. His father irritated him constantly, but he loved him and wanted to make him proud. His father wanted him to be captain, but he didn't want that pressure. He was stressed enough as it was, and his father hadn't even known about his biggest secret, the one that made him even more bitter as time went on; he was attracted to men.
During his sixth year at school Sean admitted feeling for a boy that he had been tutoring, lucky that he also felt the exact same. For a couple of months they secretly got together, and eventually fell in love… but they did not have a happy ending. One day Sean’s father walked in on them making out in the locker room and forbade them from being together. Though they attempted to be even more secretive, he found out and made Sean pay for it during their one on one practices.
TRIGGER: Suicide Attempt this paragraph
One day Sean had been pushed too far and he couldn’t take it anymore. So, he went into the potions supply closet, found himself a bottle of aconite, and drank it as he waited for his lover to meet him. It wasn’t long before the poison took over and Sean was passed out. With the bottle in his pocket, the healer was able to give him the proper anecdote before it was too late. Soon after waking up, Sean was broken up with since the boy couldn’t handle the drama of the situation anymore.
It took a while, but eventually Sean began to feel a little better. His father eased up on him a lot, and even though his classmates had found out about the suicide he wasn’t treated very much differently. By graduation he had a better head on his shoulders and even made it on the Australian Quidditch Team, fulfilling his father’s dream for him. He hated Quidditch, but there was something about the air and being up high that made him feel good, so he continued to play. Not to mention that it kept his father happy.
