Under most dreadful circumstances Boaz was out to get another pet. It had been a little over a year since his Ruby had died and he found he was often lonely without her. The dog had been just about everything he had needed in a companion, but he was looking for something else. Though he had been able to care for Ruby he knew he was getting busier and he wanted something just a little more self-sufficient. His sisters had suggested he get a cat and honestly Boaz had not thought that was a good idea until he then found that he was enjoying watching the small fur balls chase after the feathers and other toys. He had been back three times this week and he found that he was quite attached to the little bobtailed calico. She was feisty and he felt that would fit right in with him.

He was handed the little thing and he pulled her to his chest and snuggled her. This would be his little Opal. She was not white but she reminded him a bit of the black opals his mother had been so in love with. That and it stayed with in the Gem theme he had for names his Owl was named Quartz and he had a frog name Peridot when he was in school. It was not a bad theme as far as names went he supposed. He smiled as she snuggled inot his chin. Yes this was his Opal.

The man and the little kitten made their way around the store as he collected what he still needed at home to give her a proper home. He paused at the collars and selected a rather pretty pink one. She would be the nest dressed princess. He smiled. ”Do you mind handing me that pink collar over there?” he indicated that between the kitten and his basket, his hands were just a little full.

Geraldine sometimes liked to come into the pet shop to look at the varied animals--mostly because it got her away from school during the year, or during vacation, it got her closer to school.  She could be around people she didn't know in a familiar setting that, essentially, asked absolutely nothing of her.  It was calming.

She browsed around the shop, taking time to look at the owls, the lizards, the puppies, and, eventually, the cats as well.  They often had a good mix of a kittens and young adult cats up for adoption.  She often preferred these animals for, while they weren't practical like an owl, were definitely entertaining.  One could never fully predict a cat, and even if they could, they had a habit of pulling a 180 on a whim.  Not that she'd ever had one, but she wanted one.  Eventually.

After she finished watching the felines, she started walking through an aisle chosen at random to begin to leave, when a man had asked for some help.  Looking over, she found that his arms were quite full with a variety of objects....and a tiny little fluff ball of a kitten.  Shrugging, she grabbed the pink collar, pausing to look at it, before placing it in his basket for him.  "New to owning cats?" she asked, trying hard to not just stare at the adorable little calico.
