- A little bit rough around the edges, Alan is of an average height with broad shoulders and a stocky build. He has an open, honest face and is most often found wandering around in jeans, a flanelette shirt, or some variety of very faded black band t-shirt from the seventies. Farm work has made him a little muscular, although regular drinking sessions and a love for high fat foods tends to make him a little more on the squishy side. He takes no obvious care to look after his appearance, dislikes and distrusts formal wear, and would be quite happy living his life out in a singlet and an old pair of tracksuit pants.
- Personality:
- As a general rule, Alan is open, honest and likes to have a joke around. He was a Spencer student in school, and well known for his pranks. Though older, he isn't exactly wiser - and is still the type of person to charm someone's drink to move away from their hand, and think it ridiculously funny. Aside from this, Alan is a family man, who dreams of having his own. He likes to be relaxed, and doesn't like the stress of formal situations, he loves the outdoors and the small town feel of Narrie. He likes wide open spaces, and any form of dead cow food. He doesn't like being told what to do, and can often get sulky when things don't go his way.
- History:
- Alan was born in Narragyambie, to Laurence and Ann-Marie Burdett. He was soon followed by six siblings, Stephen, Barry, Elizabeth, Samantha, Liam and Emily - and to this day the Burdett family is rather close. He attended St Andrews Primary School, and at age eleven, was sent to Tallygarunga Academy. He was a decent student, but tended to prefer pranking other students to actual study, and as his biggest goal in life was to run his own farm, seemed rather disinterested in school. At the end of his sixth year, he had a change of heart, and studied his hardest to achieve a higher score than his previous years. He graduated with moderate results, as Head Boy for 1984. He attended Victoria Magical University, studying to become a potions teacher. After graduation he returned to Tally to teach, resuming ties with friends Matt Longhurst and Rachel Myers. His progress through the school was relatively quick. By 1998, he had become Head of Spencer, and Deputy Headmaster. 1999 saw him in his first year as Headmaster, and has been there since. To date, Alan has proposed to two women. His school love Amanda Longhurst, and ex-professor Gabrielle Hawkson. He has bought rings for (but not proposed to) Kate McElhaney, and Drea Church. Both left him before he had the chance. In early 2008, Alan's first child was born - after a scandalous episode with Adele DeVylissea. Alan loved Lauren more than anything, but lost her in a tragic accident six months later. Today, he is still trying to pick up the pieces after his daughter's death. He has returned to teaching at the school, and regained his position as headmaster. Life is finally starting to look up for Alan, with the return of his old friend Rachel.
- Secrets:
- There isn't much Alan keeps secret. All of his worst facets are known, and accepted. Although he's a little ashamed to disclose the exact amount he's put away for his wedding day - whenever that should happen.
- General Knowledge:
- Having lived in Narrie his whole life, everything is known about Alan. They know he has spaceships on sheets of the single bed he keeps at his parents house, they know exactly how many rings he's bought, and they've followed along as he got his heart broken time and time again. They know his music collection doesn't just cover rock, but also horrific nineties pop music, that he's all but allergic to suits, and that he has an extreme fascination with women's chests. It's also well known that he has a heart condition, which frustrates him no end.
