Working behind the desk at Australia Post, Madge knows everyone's business. Although not a witch herself, she is the daughter of a wizard, and enjoys the interesting tales that come out of Tallygarunga. It is widely accepted that she is a gossip, anything that Madge knows - everyone will know soon. Her most frequent informer is Matt Longhurst, who finds out all the juiciest gossip on the bar.

MICHELLE NOELENE VAUGHN

Occupation: Bartender - The Drunken Roo
Age: 32
Mish attended Penrose, and was expelled in her final year for kissing another student. Embarassed, her parents never allowed her to return to study, she was removed from the family and kicked out of the house with little more than the clothes on her back. Needing to get away, Mish ran as far as she could without proper transport, finding herself in Narrie. The Roo was the brightest, warmest looking establishment on the main strip - and she headed there to keep warm before finding a place to sleep outside. Instead, she was given a job and a place to sleep inside. She is quite sarcastic, and moody - often in a dark mood. But she is an efficient bartender, albeit sick of telling Matt she doesn't swing his way.

HERBERT

Nickname: Just Herbert

Age: 38
Herbert joined the military at a young age, wanting nothing more than to serve his country and protect Queen Ria. His dedication caused him to rise through the ranks quickly, and by the age of twenty was leading groups of his own men. Although the nation was largely peaceful, having no other neighbours than the stuffy traditionalist L'Arine people, training exercises with outside weapons were frequent, and it was before one of these exercises that Herbert overheard a plot to shoot the Chief High General of the LE military, Duke Elderbert Borington. Knowing the men would turn on each other if this were to happen, Herbert was unable to stop the plot without evidence - instead he shot the leader of the group during the exercise before the assassination could be carried out. This display of loyalty to his men wasn't appreciated by the military, but was picked up by then to-be queen Juliette D'Lassorrow, who was looking for a manservant/bodyguard for her son, Prince Evan Dempsey. Herbert is often described as 'dapper and dangerous', a superb bartender, a brilliant dancer, cultured and licenced to kill, there is no extreme he wouldn't go to if Evan were in danger, or, perhaps - if his cooking had been insulted.

LAURENCE ALAN BURDETT

Occupation: Retired
Age: 65
Laurie is a man of very few words, and rarely varied facial expressions. Any of the Burdett children will explain that a smile from their father is the highest praise they know, a frown is the worst sign of danger. He rarely lets his emotions take hold of him, preferring to view the world with a calm outlook that will help solve problems rather than escalate them. He doesn't believe in violence, or drinking for any other purpose than fun, and has tried to pass these values onto his children. He's a big family man, and incredibly proud of all of his children, as well as the number of children that have been 'adopted' into the family over the years. He loves his wife deeply, a love only matched by his love of the land and the farm he insists on working on - despite having retired years ago.

ANNE-MARIE OLIVIA BURDETT

Nickname: Marie, Mum, Annie (Laurie only)
Occupation: Retired
Born Anne-Marie Olivia Gladstone, Marie was born into a wealthy family in the Gippsland area. Being of pure blood and money, it was expected that she and her siblings would all attend the Penrose and Greyheme schools, but a slight family scandal caused both schools to discontinue the acceptance of the Gladstone children, and Marie, as the youngest, was sent to Tallygarunga instead. Despite the shame, her family still continued to hold itself in high regard, and always looked down on Laurie, who 'deserved nothing better' than Tallygarunga. As a result, Marie has minimal contact with her mother, and is on civil terms only with her second eldest sister - the Penrose graduate who dragged the family's name through mud. Nevertheless, she is happy with her many children and devoted husband. The opposite of Laurie, she has no hesitation showing her emotions, and can go from happy to severely angry in less than three seconds. She is respected and feared not only by her children, but by a number of Narrie residents, and wants nothing more in her life than to see all her kids happily married off and giving her grandchildren. She is not above setting 'playdates', and can be quite cunning when it comes to persuading people.

STEPHEN ARTHUR BURDETT

Age: 41
Second eldest of all the Burdett children, Steve is also the tallest. He lords this over Alan and the rest of his siblings. Graduating Tallygarunga in 1985, Steve was housed in Spencer, and was the ultimate assistant for any prank. While not the sharpest tool in the box, he is good at following orders, and knows his job thoroughly. He often doesn't get jokes, and will laugh hours later in the event that he does suddenly understand. He is solid and hardworking, and unfortunately gullible at times.

BARRY DOUGLAS RYAN BURDETT

Nickname: Baz, Bazza
Occupation: Farmer - Burdett Family Farm
Age: 39
Barry claims his place as the cheekiest of all the Burdetts. The most likely to laugh at toilet humour, and less moral than his two older brothers. He was a charms legend as a child, and created a great many new pranks that are still in use at Tallygarunga today. Also in Spencer, he graduated in 1987, returning straight to the family farm as planned to assist Steve and his father with running the place. He has trouble being serious for any length of time, and appears to always be scheming something.

ELIZABETH ANNE BURDETT

Nickname: Liz, Lizzie, Lizbeth
Occupation: Actress/Nightclub Waitress
Age: 37
Liz tends to be the least-liked of the Burdett siblings, having a pricklier disposition than the others. She is a born sceptic, and is more given to sarcasm in condescending comments rather than compliments and positive remarks. Like all Burdetts, she is protective of her family, though seems to take this to an extreme the others don't, and has on occasion threatened the girlfriends of her older brothers with their lives. Liz lives in Melbourne, and is still trying to make it as an actress - a task that only gets more difficult with her fading youth. She waitresses in a night club to pay the bills, as well as mooching off her successive undesirable boyfriends. She graduated Tallygarunga in 1989, and was in Sturt.

SAMANTHA MARIE BURDETT

Age: 34
Quietest of all the Burdett children, Samantha possesses the least magical ability. She struggled through school and graduated as a Bourke in 1992, scraping passes in enough classes to get by. Unable to continue on to be a healer or mediwitch as she had planned, she chose a muggle career as a dental nurse. She is very loyal, and tends to keep her opinions to herself. Samantha will stand up for what she believes in, but avoids confrontation at all costs.

PATRICK LIAM BURDETT

Occupation: Interior Designer
Age: 28
Despite his real first name, he has always been known as Liam. Although he spends most of his time in Melbourne, Liam is still a frequent face on the Narrie social scene, having trained Matt Longhurst to make the sorts of funny coloured drinks he enjoys. Graduating Tallygarunga in 1998, Liam was placed in Sturt and had enough charms to have a modest succession of girlfriends while in school. It wasn't until he developed a major crush on his university room mate Ben that he realised what was missing, and came out to his family one-by-one. Alan was the last to know, though not from lack of trying, Liam's eldest brother seemed oblivious to the hints he dropped. Liam has no wish to commit to anyone, and is in the search of fun.

EMILY RACHEL BURDETT

Occupation: Student
Age: 27
Youngest of the Burdetts, Emily graduated in 2001, and was in Flinders. As a child, she was frequently babysat by her eldest brothers. Steve and Baz were the most likely to torment her, and it was Alan's tendency to save her from strife that started her hero-worship of Alan. She was upset to be put in Flinders, away from Alan - who was then teaching at Tallygarunga, but put all the effort she could into school. Naturally bubbly and chatty, if gullible and a little clueless at times, Ems made good solid friends, graduating with good enough grades to do what she wanted at university: follow in Alan's footsteps and become a teacher in her own right. However, it seemed that teaching didn't suit her as well as it did her brother, and after two years struggling through the degree, she dropped out. She applied for a different university advertising a course in creature care, and was accepted. But the university was not in New South Wales as she thought she had read, but instead in actual Wales. She left her family reluctantly, but is apparently enjoying the course, and comes home as often as funds and uni will allow.
