A Slight Disturbance

Aksana was stationary in the middle of the corridor. As she stared down at the decoy detonator ,that her cousin,Demitri had sent her, in her hands she wondered what it would be worth to throw it in the midst of the students that packed the corridor and wait for something resembling panic to ensue.
Aksana thought about it for several seconds until a glint of light from her wrist caught her eye. It was from her watch, which read nine twenty-nine. With a start that caused her to drop the device she was holding, she realized that she was nearly late for one of her lessons. Not wanting to provoke the wrath of a teacher this early in the day,Aksana began to run towards the classroom she needed to be in. As she reached the door, however, she was stopped by the sound of a rather loud explosion and a cloud of black smoke several yards away that was steadily growing larger.
As the smell of burnt rubber hit her nostrils, Aksana realized what had happened "Oh man..." she thought. "Well...it's not like I wasn't going to do that anyways, I suppose." She stood outside of the classroom, watching her fellow classmates try to trace the cause of the disturbance, not even really caring whether she was late or not anymore.

Tessa jumped out from bed when she looked at her watch. It was almost nine thirty, and she had Defence Against the Dark Arts class. She was surely going to be late, since she still had to change and everything. She was going to be late, again. "Hey hey Plonterionees" Tess said to her brown frog, as she tied her shoes. "How convenient", she thought. She had just remembered that she had Defence Against the Dark Arts homework, and she hadn't done it, again. She was surely getting detention this time. "What will we do now, Scatty?" she asked herself, I mean, to one of her made up characters. Tessa had made up a lot of characters, to whom she asked question all the time. That was why some students around the school called her CT, or 'Crazy Tessie', because they thought she had 'imaginary friends'.

Tessa put Plonterionees into her school bag - she carried her beloved frog to eveywhere she went, but no one knew it... yet - and started to make her way to the DADA class, thinking of possible excuses for her lack of punctuality, and homework. When she was almost getting there, she heard a loud explosion behind her back. She turned around and saw a big cloud of black smoke, and her eyes went wide. Who owned the brilliant mind who planned this? It looked like she was going to have an excuse to miss DADA that morning... Again, Tess turned around, trying to find who had done that. She saw a red-headed girl, that seemd a little younger than her, and walked towards her. "Excuse me" Tess said, once she got closer "Do you know who made this? I mean the big and loud and totally awsome explosion?"

Akasana looked over at the girl who was addressing her. "Well. It really depends on how awesome you think it was. Because if we're talking 'it's so awesome that I think I'll go tell a professor about it' then it was that kid over there." she pointed to a small first year boy who look petrified.
"But if it was 'so awesome that I'll high five the mastermind behind it.' Then it was someone who is withing a few feet of yourself and quite pleased with the compliment." Aksana did not want to give too much away, but seeing as this was an actual accident for once she would have a good out in case of trouble. Or at the very least a way to lessen whatever punishment she might be given.

Aksana smiled at the girl.

Tessa couldn't help to laugh at the girl's answer "Are you kidding? Now I have the perfect explanation why I'll miss Defence Against the Dark Arts today, and why I didn't do the homework! 'Oh, I'm so sorry Proffessor Papei. I was coming to your class, but something exploded, and my homework was consumed by the fire'." Tessa said, faking an innocent voice, "'And that's why I couldn't come to your class last week'" she finished, suddenly not caring about class anymore. Normally, a lame excuse such as 'my homework was consumed by the fire' would never work. But hey, a bomb had just exploded, "But seriously. Were you the one who planned this? I mean, how old are you? Fourteen, maybe fifteen? I would never plan something like this" Tess asked, excited.

"Oh, by the way" Tess continued after a few moments "I'm Tessa Fratch" she said, strtching her right arm, waiting for a handshake.

As she shook Tessa's hand, Aksana replied "My names Aksana Martinov and to be honest, this was an accident. I was thinking about tossing the detonator but saw that I was late for class, dropped it and it exploded by itself." she said shrugging and frowning slightly. "But you can still use that excuse. It's qite a it better than telling your professor that it got carried off by a swarm of knowledge starved Billywigs." Aksana laughed slightly.

Tessa shook Aksana's hand "Aksana... That's an awsome name. Not very usual, though" she said. Tessa loved unusual stuff "You are not australian are you? And where did you get the detonator? I am completly buying one of those" she said. Tess had the annoying tedencie of asking to poeple she met tons and tons of questions at once. Tessa laughed slightly at Aksna's last comment, about the 'knowledge starved Billywigs'. "Actually, I was going to say that my dog peed on my homework. But it probably wouldn't work, since I don't even have a dog."

Tessa reached for a bag of candies she had into her backpack. She felt Plonterionees' skin as she tried to find it, her school bag was even more messy that day. Tessa finally found her medium-sized blue bag in which she kept all her candies. She took one Chocolate Frog, and handed the bag to Aksana "Want some? I have some toffees, small lollipops, but mostly Chocolate Frogs."

Aksana giggled. She liked Tess. "It's Russian, as am I. They detonator was a gift from my cousin Demitri, I do believe he ordered it from a joke shop in the United Kingdom.." Aksana told her. She was delighted that someone had managed to speak with her for more than 5 minutes without saying "I didn't quite understand you." She was quite aware that her accent was rather thick but people could at lest fake understanding.

Aksana accepted took a chocolate frog. "Thank you." she told the other girl with a smile. "These are my favorites.

"Oh, Russia is an awsome country" Tessa said, just after Aksana said she was from there "I mean, I never visited it, but I saw some pictures on my Geography book" Tess added quickly. She studied in a muggle-school for eleven years, because she is a half-blood, and she had plenty geography school books in her cupboard. "There's all those pretty and colorful castles, with those awsome towers" she said, daydreaming again.

"Oh, those ones are my favorite too" Tessa said, just after Aksana accepted a chocolate frog. "I mean, I have this crazy obsession with frogs, and frog-shaped chocolates are just perfect." Tess said happily, eating one chocolate "Anyways" she said, when she was finished. "Umm, do you have any pets?" she asked, changing the subject. Tessa was very talkative, and this means that she had to be talking all the time.

"Russia is very beautiful. Cold though." Aksana nodded. Whenever she began to miss her native country she did her best to remind herself how cold it was there.
"I have a kitten. His name is Bartok." She told Tess. "He's normally with me but I think he ran off chasing a rat as I was leaving the dormitory this morning." she wasn't worried about not know where her beloved pet was. He was a smart cat and could get along just fine without her.
"Do you have any pets?" Aksana asked.

"Oh, I love cold places!" Tessa said, excited. She didn't quite know why she loved cold days. She just did.

"Bartok? What a great name for a kitten!" Tess said. She always went mental when she heard unusual names. To her, most of the names from other countries she heard were unusual, since she was born and raised in Australia, and never left the country.
"Oh, I have this big frog. His name is Plonterionees, or just Nees, for short" Tess said "I always carry him in my backpack, do you want to see him?" she asked, not very sure she would like to. Most girls didn't like frogs that much, and Tessa understood it.

Aksana smiled. "I named him after my favorite tiger at The St.Petersburg zoo." She had loved that tiger and that entire city. But she understood why her entire family had fled. When given the choice between seeing a tiger and living, she would choose living hands down.
"I'd love to see your toad." she told Tess." She didn't quite love reptiles and amphibians but they weren't terrible. Certainly not as bad as insect.

"Are you serious?" Tessa didn't quite expected that answer. Aksana seemed to be one of those 'girly-girls' who hated insects and reptiles. Tessa has nothing against this kind of girls, she just wasn't one of them. They, on the other hand, definately had something against Ploterionees. She put her backpack on the floor and kneeled beside it, both her hands into it, trying to find her toad.
"Oh, here you are" Tessa said when she felt Nees' skin under her hand. She took him out from the backpack and stood up. "Nees, this is Akasana, Aksana, this is Nees." Tessa said happily, like she was introducing a person.

With a smile Aksana bent over slightly so she was eye level with the frog. "Pryvet" she said to it, using the Russian word for hello. "You are a very handsome frog." Aksana continued.
She straightened up again, still smiling brightly. Now that she saw it up close she was not concerned with the fact that there was a frog in her general vicinity. It really was quite cute in any case.
"You'll have to meet Bartok sometime." she told Tess.

Tessa smiled as Aksana said something in Russian to her cat "What does it mean?" she asked a few moments later, as she leaned down again to put Nees in the backpack again. Tess was quite curious about Aksana, since she was probably the only girl who came from another country that she had ever met. "It'd be good if you didn't tell anyone I carry Plonterionees in my bag" she said, as she closed the bag "I don't know weather it is allowed or not to take pets into the classroom" Tessa said, standing up again.
"I can't wait to meet your cat" Tess said with a bright smile. She loved animals, and a Russian cat must be really great.

"It means hello" Aksana explained. She watched Tess put the animal back in her bag. "I won't tell." she promised. As she was talking she felt something furry around her ankles.Every other person might have been slightly creeped out at this. However, Aksana knew what was winding itself around her legs. She bent over and picked up a small black and white cat.
"There you are, friend" she said to it as it meowed at her. "Say hello to Tess, Bartok" Aksana told her pet. "She's a very nice girl."
Aksana looked around. The smoke had cleared up quite a bit, but people were still looking around confused as they continued on their way.

"Oh, he is so lovely!" Tessa said to Aksana, referring to Bartok. Then, she turned her gaze to the cat "Pryvet, Bartok" she said, petting his head. Okay, so her australian accent made the Russian word sound like... Nothing anyone could possibly understand, "Or hello, if you couldn't understand what I just said" she added, still looking at Bartok.

Tess looked up at Aksana, who was now looking around to the smoke caused by the detonator, and the confused people around it. "Are you sure you won't get into trouble because of this?" she asked slowly.

Aksana giggled. "Your accent may need a little improving but it was a very nice attempt." she told her.
She looked around hurriedly at Tess' mention of getting into trouble. "There's always a possibility of it." she started, turning around and scanning the hallway. "Why? You don't see anyone, do you?" It wasn't the potential detention that bothered her. It was the inevitable letter home to her parents. Aksana's father and cousin Demitri wuld find the whole thing hilarious, but her mother and grandmother...Let's just say that they weren't huge on loud noises. "They raised me." she thought. "should be used to it by now."

Tessa looked around "No, I don't see anyone" she said, answering to Aksana's last question "But still. Half the school probably know about the detonator right now. It was rather loud, you see" Tess said, looking to Aksana again. "Let's hope no one let a proffessor know about it."

Tess smiled "I still don't get how someone so young has enough brain to plan something like this!" Tessa always loved pranking people. But her pranks were nothing more than silly curses and jinxes. She never thought about exploding something in the hallway. It was just brilliant "Let me know the next time you want to explode something." Tessa said "I definitely want to see it" she quickly added.

"True..." Aksana murmured as she continued to look around. "Maybe we should exit the scene of the crime." She said as she started to walk away, forgetting that the class she was supposed to be in was a few feet in the opposite direction. Bartok meowed in protest.
"I'm nearly 15." Aksana told the girl as she stopped, realizing that Bartok was meowing at her because she was already where she was supposed to be going. "And an explosion is pretty simple. It's the more complex things like turning all of the clocks in the school back an hour or inciting a house elf dance party in the corridor that take massive amounts of thinking." She walked back to where she had been standing before.
"Forgot my class was here." She explained. "Well, I could always use some help with that dance party." Aksana told her, grinning.

"Yes, you are right" Tessa said as she started to follow Aksana to somewhere a little further from the scene of the crime. Not just because it was going to be potentially problematic if someone saw the two girls standing right beside the black smoke while they were supposed to be in class, but because she really wanted to be a little further from the Defense Agianst the Dark Arts classroom. Just in case someone wanted to go to te bathroom or whatever and saw her standing there.

Tessa heard as Aksana told her about some more complex tricks "Wow. That's awsome, you really did those things?" she asked smiling, and stood where she were when Aksana started going back. "Oh" she said, after Aksana explained to her that her class was there "My class is there too... But I think I'll.... I don't know, maybe skip it?" she said. Tessa had never skipen a class before. It seemed so thrilling! "And I'd love to help you with the dance party"

"The clocks and house elves have yet to be carried out. As does something with Nifflers and pudding that, to be honest, needs revised quite a bit." Aksana inched away from the classroom. She had considered skipping more than once since the explosion but remembered that today was the day they learned about patronus'. She told Tess this as she set her cat down on the floor.

"Oh" Tess said, when Aksana told her that that was the day in which she'd learn how to cast a patronus charm. "Well, I've learnt it already, a while ago..." she added a few moments later, as she straightened her pink skirt. "So, you better get into the classroom quickly" she said to Aksana "I don't think the proffessor likes when people are late to his class...." Tess added "Besides, I have some Astronomy star chart to fill in, so..." she had just remembered this detail "I guess I'll see you around"
