It wasn't the first time this had happened.
She had left Healing class, carrying practically everything that had been in her bag in her hands instead, just because Professor Christensen had shooed her out before she could stuff all her books back into her pack; apparently she still had another class for a separate year level and needed to get ready for that. Beatrice then had to wobble around with a stack of leather-bound books, a few notebooks, and her pen case, to name a few.
Let's just say it was a classic case of clumsiness for her as she struggled to maintain balance while she tried to find a place to put her books for a while so that she could put them back properly. Unfortunately that was not to be, because - gasp! - as fate would have had it, her left shoelace was untied, and she had the bad luck to step on it, sending her on a one-way crash course to the floor. She closed her eyes and let go of her books, reaching her hands out so that she could at least save herself the agony of a face-first fall.
For one of the first times in her life she hoped that someone would be around. She didn't want the attention; a miracle would've been nice, though.

Using his free period of the day to study, or rather read a book that Junior has suggested, Evan had spent most of the break reading under a tree in the courtyard but now as his next class was approaching, Ev had now decided that it would be a good chance time to head back to his room to grab his belongings for the class. So as he was travelling along the Tarnagulla Corridor whistling softly some random theme that had gotten stuck in his head from the previous day, Ev couldn?t help but notice a younger girl not too far in front of him struggling with what looked like all her school books for all her classes and he was about to ask if she was right.
Suddenly the books were going one way and the girl had lurched forward and was heading straight for the ground, Evan kicked his walking into a quick jog for the few meters that the girl was in front of him before doing the first thing he could think of, grabbing her around the waist to stop her falling, which by the looks from of he had arrived just in time as her hands seemed like that had been almost touching the ground. Carefully pulling her back into a position so her feet were back flat on the floor, Evan let go of her quickly, but peered at her worryingly for a moment in case she suddenly when back on her trajectory of face first to the floor.
Deciding that she didn?t appear to be, Evan squatted down to the floor, putting his book on the ground next to his feet and started to grab the girl?s equipment from whatever was in reach first before looking back up at her, his blue eyes still holding a slightly nervous worrying to them as they usually did when he saw someone about to or falling.
?Um, stupid question, but are you alright? Did you hurt yourself or anything?? Evan asked softly, as if talking in his normal voice might scare her, after all it had all happened so suddenly. She had been walking and then falling, Ev hoped she wasn?t about to faint or anything.

Seemed like Beatrice got her miracle; she had already had her arms out to break her fall, but it never came. Instead she was caught and helped back up, and she was incredibly grateful - she turned to look at who her savior was. He turned out to be a tall person, probably in sixth or seventh year from the looks of it. He seemed to look at her concernedly before he bent down to help pick up her books. He then asked if she was all right - she hardly heard the question. She was still slightly fazed from her near-fall.
"What?" she asked, before saying, "Oh. Yeah. It looks like I'm still in one piece, thanks to you." She grinned for a moment before she realized he was on the floor picking up her things. She went as red as anyone could possibly go, embarrassed that she was letting someone else pick up after her huge mess. She bent over with him, picking up the books he hadn't yet taken, especially one that landed unbelievably far away, to the side of a potted plant near the end of the corridor.
When she was sure she'd picked up everything, she turned to the (really really tall) guy and said, "Thanks again. I'm probably the princess of all klutzes so I should have seen that coming, but thanks so much." She usually wouldn't talk this much around upperclassmen, much less upperclassmen she didn't know, but he did help her out, so she made an exception. Besides, he seemed somewhat nice.

?Hey, no thanks needed. I?m glad to be of help to someone, somewhere.? Evan replied when she thanked him for the third time, as he straightened up into a standing position and rearranged the books and piece of stationary that he had collected that belonged to the girl.
Evan couldn?t help but give a little grin to the girl who seemed to be all fine and well now after the little bit of shock she had been in had worn off. She had even poked fun at herself by self titling herself the Princess of all Klutzes, Evan didn?t even feel the slight indignant response he usually did when one referred to themselves as a member of Royalty when they weren?t. This girl seemed like she was almost just doing it out of rambling or nerves.
Two things Evan understood well enough. Or at least he had since he had arrived here.
?If you are the Princess of all Klutzes, I think it?s fair to only introduce myself as the Prince of saying the wrong thing at the worse time.? Evan said and was about to extend out his hand to shake but looking down at the arm full he had of her items and decided that it was best to avoid dumping them on the ground. ?Also for the record I feel I should state that I also go by the name Evan.?
It was a strange feeling being able to refer to himself as a Prince and not have to worry about running for the hills from his Aunt or Cousin hexing him for not keeping the secret. But then again, Am?a had apparently told her fang faced friend so if Evan did at some point feel the need to share that information it?s not much could be said by either of his cousins because he was sure Adele would have told someone at some point who she really was.
?Why did you have all these books out, may I ask? What I mean is that, wouldn?t it be easier to carry most of this in your bag? It might be easier to manage as well.? Evan asked, nodding his head in the direction of the bag that she had with her that looked to be sagging without anything or very little in it. ?I can hold all this if you wanted to, you know, stack it all in or organise them or something along those lines to make carrying it around easier for you.?
Evan at this point was almost prepared to pat himself on the back, so far he hadn?t made a stupid comment and made himself look like a total idiot, in his opinion anyway.

Beatrice was embarrassed, to say the least, and when it didn't show on her face it usually showed in her tone of voice. She knew that she wasn't exactly making sense, but hey, that's what she tended to do just to get rid of the nervous, jittery feeling she got talking to new people, or conversely humiliating herself in front of new people. In any case, she would have retracted her wish for someone to come help her and would've traded it in for the knowledge that no one had seen her fall, if the person in front of her wasn't as nice as he was.
When he introduced himself as the Prince of saying the wrong things at the worst possible time, Beatrice had to laugh. She knew how that felt, as she was quite easily prone to that as well. He then gave his name - Evan. She nodded and answered, "I'm Beatrice," with a grin.
A quick look at the khaki tie with blue stripes that he was wearing told her he was from Sturt. (Thank Percy for uniform pieces that discarded the need for awkward questions.) She looked back at him and said, "Oh - you're from Sturt?" she remembered one of her close friends who was from that house, smiling to herself as she did. "Do you know Tory?" she felt the need to ask. After all, Tory had gotten her out of many tight spots, too, and she knew that if she and Evan already met they were probably good friends.
At his comment about carrying her books around, she looked back at the stack of books now in her hand. "Ah... sorry about that, I usually do carry it in my bag, but I wasn't able to put them back in after my last class." She walked over to a window ledge where she was able to set her books as she started to stuff them back into her book bag.

?Ah, so the Princess of all Klutzes does have another name! Pleasure to meet you Beatrice.? Evan said, giving her a playful grin as he followed over to where the younger girl had walked over to the ledge and started to repack her bag. Evan leant his back against the wall, handing her the objects he was holding, grabbing his book out of the pile where he had put it when picking up the rest of the scattered objects.
Evan Dempsey wasn?t the type to blush. He was brave, bold and manly. Not to mentioned he was quite the debonair Prince. But lately, since that day in DADA he had found himself colouring slightly at the mention of Tory Pierce, but now since yesterday when she had agreed to a date for this weekend, he pretty much was flat out blushing. It was very embarrassing, especially one ones pet familiar who was a oversized bunny seemed to find it high amusing. Seeing as Beatrice had smiled at the mention of Tory, Evan took it they must have been friends, the girl seemed nice enough so Evan wasn?t really surprised by that.
?Yeah I?m a Sturt?? Evan forced himself to clear this throat softly as his tone had been a little higher pitched than usual. ?I do know Tory, same house, in a few of my classes. She was one of the very few people I met over the summer break before I had even started here this year. Tor is pretty great.?
?That sounded casual right? What if it was too casual? What if Beatrice knew about the whole Tory and my date, or that I asked her out and she is curious to see if I?m good enough for her friend to go out with? Oh hell, why must females always confuse me? They must have a manual written somewhere called ?Confusing Evan Dempsey in three simple steps? that the fairer gender all must have read. Yes, that must have been it indeed?? Evan forced his mind and it?s conspiracy theories out to be washed out to back noise, getting himself into a state of panic was not going to help anyone, especially himself.
?I?m afraid; I?m not observant enough or lucky enough of a guess to know what house you are in aside from not being in Sturt since I haven?t see you around our common room or dorms. So do forgive me but I must ask, which out of Flinders, Spencer, Bourke house you do belong to? ? Evan figured he might as well try to keep the conversation going, the girl didn?t appear to be a nervous as she had previously been which made Ev relax a little, he detested the idea that he made people uncomfortable, that was of course unless he wanted them to feel so.

Beatrice had to admit that she didn't often notice much, but she couldn't ignore the fact that Evan had reddened at the sound of Tory's name. Maybe it was a coincidence? Or a trick of the light, or some other reason like that? She doubted it, but she wasn't one to jump to conclusions. She blushed a lot for no real reason and she wouldn't want to judge other people by their blushes, either. At the least, she let the older boy's apparent embarrassment make her grin. It confirmed, anyway, her thought that the two would have met.
"Yeah, Tor is awesome," she agreed with a laugh. She remembered the whole Kaitlyn fiasco, when Tory had 'rescued' her from the evil queen-bee-wannabe. She had to remember to meet up with Tory again sometime after this. At the moment, though, she turned back to Evan, now that she was done with reorganizing her things. She went on with, "It's great having a friend like her. I mean, I'm probably the ultimate bully target, and she's gotten me out of tight spots like that a lot of times. And she's just really nice."
She smiled at the memory. However, she noticed that Evan looked rather nervous, fidgeting where he was as if slightly uncomfortable about something. Concerned, she asked, "Hey - are you all right? You look a bit jittery." How well she knew that feeling. She was also hardly the type to intimidate people, so she couldn't imagine what he was so anxious about.
When he asked about her house, she replied, "Oh, I'm from Flinders." The tie with the house colors was optional, apparently, and she often opted not to wear hers considering the fact that she always got up late and didn't have much time to put one on in the mornings. She noticed, happily, that Evan had relaxed a little - that was good. She didn't want to make people upset or bothered or anything like that, so she was glad to see he had calmed down some.

Trying not to grin stupidly as Beatrice spoke of Tory, Evan couldn?t help but feel the way he viewed the Sturt increase as the Flinders girl spoke highly. For some reason it really didn?t surprise him, he could almost imagine it; Tory Pierce- defender of the downtrodden or something like that. Fighting against his seemingly easily distracted mind to stay in the conversation and not imagine people randomly striking heroic poses all over the school, Evan nodded his head in agreement to Beatrice?s general evaluation of Tory. Ev couldn?t help but frown when she referred in the context of being a ?ultimate bully target? she seemed like a sweet enough kid to Evan so he didn?t understand why someone would want to pick on her, but then again bullies usually went for easy targets, right?
?I might still be learning the ropes around here and all, but if you find yourself having any trouble with the boys, let me know. I?ll pull them into line.? Evan said sincerely, knowing that no matter how valiantly Tory?s efforts could be he could tell that a senior boy probably wouldn?t be deterred; where as when faced with Evan was a different story completely.
After most school aged males didn?t have the maturity it took to know that there are just some females you don?t mess with, Evan had been surrounded from birth by them. He knew the signs well enough.
?Oh, jittery? Hm, no I?m all good, just still getting used to all this.? Evan responded with a hand gesturing to their surroundings, leaving out the part of which his nerves and ?getting used to? largely included the whole dating and interacting with girl?s in a school environment which he had never had to deal with before. Usually he was more of just out and about or at formal occasions when meeting girls around his age, the whole uniforms and slightly bitter taste of conformity seemed to alter the interactions largely which did in turn cause Ev to have random little outbreaks on nerves.
?You know I don?t actually think I?ve had a real discussion with a Flinders student so far, there was that one girl in my Healing class who didn?t like my phrasing of a delicate issue but that is the limit to my encounters. This has been by far a more enjoyable interaction.? Evan said, grinning not noticing how his wording had become a little more formal at the end, he was just happy to try to change the topic, leaning casually against the wall next to him. ?So what is it like being Flinders house student??

Beatrice couldn't help but notice that Evan seemed to be smiling rather goofily while she was talking about Tory helping her out of the trouble that the younger girl almost always got into. The smile was infectious, somehow, because she found herself grinning at the way she was describing her friend, as well. Truth be told, she was bullied once, simply because she bumped into another girl and broke her bracelet, and even though Beatrice had fixed it with a simple reparo charm, Kaitlyn had wanted to make a big deal out of it. Hence the need for Tory to step in.
"Since I barely ever talk to or go around running into boys, I doubt that will happen any time soon," she said with a smile. Briefly she remembered Kingston and what she and the twins had done to push him away, but she dismissed it, not wanting to dwell on that at the moment. She went on with, "But thanks. If it happens, I'll let you know."
She shrugged when Evan said he wasn't nervous, just getting used to... Tally? She had gotten used to it pretty easily, but maybe her parents' divorce and her mother's sudden transfer to Australia from France had something to do with that. She said, honestly, "It's a great school. I'm sure that you will get used to it sometime."
She tilted her head slightly, in curiosity of what Evan had told her. Someone in Flinders had been disagreeable? She didn't really know anyone from her house who would quibble, but she supposed that if it had to do with a mistake in the lesson, they would. "Really? Who was that?" she asked. She then listened to his question before answering it with, "It's great, I guess. Common room tends to be a bit quiet, and almost everyone has this strict unwritten rule of doing any and all homework before dinner, but everyone's really nice."
"What's Sturt like?" she asked, since she knew quite a number of people from that house but was still unable to draw the generalization that tied them all together.

?Pretty sure the girl?s last name was Valentin I think. ? Evan replied with a shrug as he racked him brains for the girl?s first name he had been told when he asked a random student who she was, but now weeks after he couldn?t think of it for the life of him. ?The topic of vampires came up in the classroom, some things were phrased not the best on my behalf and yes well. I did apologise, I didn?t mean anything by the comment.?
?Great now she?ll think I?m some sort of bigot. I?ve really have got to reign in that whole thinking before speaking thing. Guys just think I?m and idiot and girls, well who really knows what girls think. Ever.? Evan could almost kick himself for almost putting himself in the same position, hopefully Beatrice wouldn?t think badly of him for once again poor phrasing.
?I?m sure I?ll settle in soon enough, it?s just very different to what I?m used to. Still sort of trying to find out where I fit in to the puzzle of life here at Tallygarunga, if you know what I mean.? Evan said, lifting his free hand to rub the back of his neck at the tension that came with the idea of trying to take who he was at home and figuring how he was meant to mesh it into Tally life without having everything out in the open.
Adele and Am?a certainly wouldn?t be happy with attention being brought to them, and how would Evan explain newspaper and tabloid photographers fighting to get a picture of him to his friends here at Tally? Ev didn?t know if he possibly could and lying was not an option.
Especially to Tory? oh and everyone else of course.
Taking a moment to reflect on what Evan had gathered on his house and housemates, there was many things he wondered about why they all seemed to be in the same house, because obviously the sorting wasn?t based on hair colour or the colour of a student?s eyes, and Tallygarunga Academy seemed to pride itself on the whole blood equality stance, which Ev thought was great but had to admit being a public school it really didn?t have a choice, did it?
?I?ve been trying to figure out why all the Sturt group are well, the Sturt group but I?m pretty much still as clueless now as I was back then!? Evan said, with a little laugh at his own self admitted confusion as his hand dropped from his neck and slide into the pocket of his uniform slacks. ?I mean not everyone is a wild party animal from what I?ve seen so far, we aren?t as strict in our homework, its whenever you feel like doing it then you do it, nobody seems to be a insane purist or on the other end of the scale a muggleborn who hates purebloods. There seems to usually be something going on in the common room, or someone doing something to bring attention to themself. I have noticed that most of my house tend to keep to themselves or whatever circles they have established.?
Thinking on his statement before giving a one shouldered shrug.
?Perhaps we are just all people that like our comfort zones and personal space more than anything else that the other houses value. Then again, mind you I could be totally missing the point of why Sturt house is Sturt house and between us, I wouldn?t be all that surprised.? Evan added on, grinning to the younger girl who Ev was discovering was easy to talk like he had found most of his other encounters with the students of the school to be.
((OOC: Sorry about the wait and lameness!))
