Máire is hardly an imposing figure, standing at 5'3 with a fairly slim frame and average curves for a young woman it would be easy enough to lose her in a crowd. She barely manages to stand out at least a little bit with a mass of blonde hair that is usually left down to fall over her shoulders and back (or it could be that her face has been seen in papers and on television occasionally since she was a child). On occasions she may straighten her hair, but prefers to leave it natural most of the time, not particularly fussed it seems with trying to keep up with the latest looks and hairstyles unless she's making an appearance somewhere.

The young woman doesn't really tend to wear a lot of make-up in everyday life, mostly just lip gloss usually and perhaps some eye-liner or mascara which tends to make her large blue eyes stand out a little from a slightly tanned complexion. She is random with jewellery; she could be wearing a wrist full of jingly bangles one day and lots of beaded necklaces the next, and then nothing the day after.

When not working, or out and about on her own, Máire appears to be just another average woman in her early to mid twenties, dressing casually she prefers lighter clothes rather than anything too bulky (singlets, shirts, skirts, shorts, and jeans). At work, she appears to be a completely different woman again; her hair is generally held up with a clip or hair tie so it doesn't get in her way, she will wear whatever's necessary for the job, usually a button blouse, slacks or business skirt, or scrubs. She also has a lab coat that was embroidered with puppies and flowers along the hem and pockets just for her. And of course when she’s required to make a public appearance for some reason or other she tends to wear tailored clothes and dresses and jewellery that at least allows her to live up to the Townsend name.

Being a child prodigy, Máire was forced to also mature mentally much faster than others her own age, something which has had its advantages as well as its major drawbacks. Her intelligence made her stand out a little, but at the same time it occasionally hindered her a little on the social side, having made it difficult to associate with others her own age when she was younger. Though, she is friendly enough and does socialise, she is more comfortable with close friends and family than out in crowds or the spotlight. And to be quite honest, Máire would rather indulge in playing with her children, than pay attention to most adult conversations. She has a strong inner child that she keeps secret from most people, and loves games and toys and things. A lot of the time, she is quite happy to curl up with their two huskies for an afternoon nap or reading or video games if she’s not doing anything.

Due to the mess and abuse that was her early childhood whenever Jennifer (she has called her mother by name since she was six) was involved, the family and friends who have been very supportive and there to help her throughout her life are very important to her and she won’t stand for anyone hurting them. Máire is not essentially a violent or confrontational person, seemingly not able to stand up for herself but she will not hesitate to stand up for a loved one if they seem to be in trouble - her heart stronger than her mind when it comes to such situations.

Many are led to believe that Máire is the perfect, happy, model member of an influential family and has it together all the time, but beneath her happy and charming surface, is a woman who has suffered from manic-depression and anxiety disorders as a result of her youth. Occasionally what you will see on the surface is not the same as what's broiling underneath and its often hard even for loved ones to tell whether she's actually really happy at a certain moment in time, or not. While not as prominent as it was years ago, she does still have the very rare moment that could bring on one of her rare anxiety or panic attacks. These are a quiet, yet very scary thing, because the signs are so difficult to spot in her. If gone unseen and gets out of control it can lead to hyperventilating or shortness of breath; or if extreme will cause her to be unable to move, to stop breathing altogether, or collapse or black out. It is only something that occurs under times of pressure in her personal life – usually when/where Jennifer is involved.

When it comes to work, Máire is a very organised individual - having made a name for herself in the family business as well as one of the wealthiest young entrepreneurs in the country and also as a very competent and caring young doctor. She loves spending time with her daughters, though has anxieties when it comes to personal relationships, having avoided any since the father of Layla and Gracie fled the country when she was pregnant at 18.

Lifestyles of the rich and the famous aren't as awesome as they seem. Especially when you get a spoiled princess like one Jennifer Townsend - willing to live off the family money and party it up, going from Pureblood man to Pureblood man, while pursuing a career as a model and actress and staying with her brother who had just moved to Melbourne to run that area of Townsend Industries, until one day she ended up with more than she bargained. Immediately shipped back off to her parents in order to keep the scandal quiet for her brother's sake, Jennifer did not react well to the entire situation and as soon as the baby - a little girl - was born, took off with her.

Her solo journey only lasted a few months before she turned up on her brother's doorstep, drunk, and some man she'd been travelling with for a week watching after Máire at some motel. For a short time Matthew helped Jennifer get sorted a little, assisting where he could with Máire, and it almost seemed like things might not be too bad when he got Jenn her own place, but quickly it went downhill as it became a party house - filling with the elite and miscreants alike. It still wasn't until one incident when Máire was only 5, that she was taken off her mother for good.

Raised then partially by her uncle and partially by her grandparents in England over the next few years, with a slightly more stable home life, Máire's academic potential began to shine, as well as her magical ability when it began to show, and she was taken to be tested at a young age - proving to be something of a child prodigy. She was given special consideration and enrolled in magical school early, attending Penrose Academy.

There were very few incidents with her mother during those years, the security at the school able to keep the woman from harassing her daughter too much, though Máire still remained rather quiet and subdued, due to the age gap between herself and those in her classes, for a year or two she struggled, but gradually gained a little more confidence than when she left thanks to the support of Katherine McElhaney who took the girl under her wing. She graduated top of most of her classes at age 14 and started Healing and Medicine at University after having consulted a child psychologist and guidance counsellor to see whether she could handle the extra study pressure at her age.

Once again, things were a little difficult to begin with, but eventually three years into healing and medicine she met someone who was very supportive and helpful toward her - unfortunately he was also a Professor at the Uni. Sweet words and kind gestures led to a small affair when she was seventeen, though was quickly shot to pieces when she discovered she was pregnant. Upon giving him the news, the man fled the country, leaving the young woman having to face the reality of becoming a single mother. Refusing to allow her to drop out, Máire's uncle helped her out a bit when she had the babies and supported her financially for a while, in exchange she did some work with him for the family business as well. The young woman worked appreciatively for her Uncle for the next few years between finishing off her medical degree, and was eventually given a silent executive position.

Now, at the age of 25, with ten years of medicine behind her, Máire is one of the more popular doctors in Narrie, working privately for the most part, but also takes appointments at the General Hospital on occasion - as well as assisting her uncle with the family business, while raising her two seven year old daughters.
