Youngest of the Burdetts, Emily graduated in 2001, and was in Flinders.
Born halfway through Alan's seventh year at Tallygarunga, she was frequently babysat by her eldest brothers. Steve and Baz were the most likely to torment her, and it was Alan's tendency to save her from strife that started her hero-worship of Alan. She was upset to be put in Flinders, away from Alan - who was then teaching at Tallygarunga, but put all the effort she could into school.
Naturally bubbly and chatty, if gullible and a little clueless at times, Ems made good solid friends, graduating with good enough grades to do what she wanted at university: follow in Alan's footsteps and become a teacher in her own right. She struck out on her own, being the first of the Burdett children to undertake study outside of Australia at a university in Wales.
In early 2007, Emily returned to Australia after her affair with a married lecturer at the university crashed and burned when she discovered she was pregnant. Emily did not complete her degree, and in late 2007 her daughter Maddison Marie was born.
Emily is generally a soft and kind person. She has a big heart and prides herself on maintaining a "comfortably large" figure for "the best big hugs". She has a strong sense of justice and fights fiercely for what is fair. She can't stand lies, manipulators, or anything that seems even vaguely underhanded. She is also incredibly protective of her family, and believes that no one will really be good enough for Alan. She can't believe she trusted Rachel.
After years of part-time study as a single mother, and with Maddison now at Tally, Emily has finally earned her teaching degree. Now she just needs to convince Alan to give her a job...
